I got that lens but because there was no alternative at the time.So I see, did you get the Batis 85?

The Batis looks like a great (if still overpriced) lens, and if the Sony 85mm 1.8 hadn't been released for such a stonkingly good price and performance I'd perhaps have been tempted too.I got that lens but because there was no alternative at the time.

Holy crap.
Seriously guys, I am entering a new world of satisfying photography with this camera. I have never in my life had such amazing results in portraiture... the combination of a7rIII and 85mm f1.8 is absolutely phenomenal. Eyes are in focus and pin sharp, and the out of focus rendering is absolutely gorgeous. Even the 28mm f2 has very pleasing bokeh, and it is surely a must buy for every Sony owner.
I will post some samples when I process them after Christmas, until then please accept my apologies but I am just writing down my thoughts. Never have I been so gobsmacked by the visual quality (artisticness aside, I am talking pure aesthetics )of my photos..
Just sold all my phase one kit, (partially due to life changes, and other stuff) but looking to move to an A7R iii with the new 16-35 F2.8 G lens,
Has anyone used the 16-35 F2.8? it looks very good, possibly the best wide-angle SLR lens you can buy (looking at it's performance)

Why are you referring to the Nikon 16-35mm f4 as though it is any cheaper than the Sony 16-35mm f4? The Sony 16-35mm f4 is also the same price as the Nikon 16-35mm f4 and a notably better performer in terms of sharpness. No, but it had better be good for that price. You could get 3 Nikon 16-35mm f/4 VR's for that price and that Nikon lens is superb
be warned. you may like it so much so that you sell your d810I've been undecided about this camera over the last couple of revisions, always wanted it, couldn't see the point in running it along side a D700/D810 but now with the dual card slots etc I am actually tempted to get this as a 3rd and a general life/walk around camera as the Nikon's are so heavy.

Warranty is not worldwide it is regional, so ask yourself if the 20% saving is really worth the risk. The new Sony 16-35 looks to me like the first SLR lens that has good corner sharpness, so difficult to get sharp corners with wide angles, without spending a fortune on Rodenstock HR glass,
I might pick one up in the states next month, or at least have a go with one, the a7r iii's sensor looks amazing, with it able to hit almost 15 stops - quite remarkable
Try the A7RIII for weddings side by side with a Nikon D810, see how it works out.I nearly bought the mk2 over the D810 anyway
Wife wants to help out with weddings, she'll end up with the D700

Well I think it was quite a self-explanatory statement... "try the Sony and the Nikon together and see how it works out". Basically, try using them both for a shoot and see what you think when comparing them. Not sure what you're trying to say? it'll be a nightmare with 2 makes? it'll blow the D810 away or the D810 will smash it?
I was blown away moving the D700 to the D810, sadly I bought it just before the news about the D810 being replaced

Hah ahh I see, no of course no sarcasm, it wasn't appropriate! The D850 is a monster camera and I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts trying them side-by-side at a wedding to get your impressions of their similar and contrasting strengths and weaknesses. There's no better field test than a wedding anyway!Ahhh, I read sarcasm when there wasn't any sorry!
