The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

If they are going to make one mirrorless pro body, I think the only logical body to make is the 7D mirrorless, it can be literally like the A9 but APSC. It would make sense because if the 7D2 has been out a while and they already have the M5/6/50 tech which can be just transported over with some adjustments. It can, if they can pull it off, high FPS silent shooting like the A9, dual cards slots and gear towards sports, like the A9.

They could actually just use the their E-M mount, which has the same diameter as Sony's E-mount. If they do that, they already have an adaptor already on the market for existing lenses, they just need to expand their EM lenses line up, FF versions.
 
 
Anyone shooting tethered to their phone? I've been using the Playmemories app, but I'm having a terrible time with it - it keeps endlessly disconnecting and messing me around - it's driven me mad a few times.

Did some googling and apparently Phase one Capture pilot now supports the Sony cameras, has anyone tried it yet?

Ive done it with my canon and Fuji, they both work as expected. I’d expect Sony to work just the same?

Using Playmemories or capture pilot? apparently they added support to capture pilot for Sony a few days ago

Playmemories works, but it constantly disconnects - I can't keep it connected to the camera, sometimes I have to turn everything off then start again - which is a huge pain.

Tony & Chelsea did a video recently of what to expect from a Canon & Nikon mirrorless camera this year and that is probably where they landed - comparable to Sony A7II/R. It's also debatable whether or not they will have IBIS at the £2k price point.

I am pretty confident that whatever Canon release, it won't match the A73 for tech or value.
 
It's an interesting time to be a photographer - good lord I want the A7 III - it makes sense for me as a full time wedding photographer, also I make about 25% of my living from videography.

BUT - and I have to keep going back to this - will it make my product any 'better' - no is the answer, a photographers skill is just that - their skill - sure its a nice cam, it makes life easier with eye AF, iv been so close to pulling the trigger!! but my 5D3 is a great work horse - it more than does 'the job' - also to date I've been a canon user, as im sure Raymond has.

I'm not sure if it's my age (35) or my point in my career - but there is a point where you stop looking at specs, hardware, 'x' stops of dynamic range and just clicks one day, oh yeah, it's me that's taking the photographs........so be that, be you - take your photos, do your best work, try your best - in this day and age with ever incremental improvements to hardware based mostly on capitalism - it's time to get back to reality - Ansel didn't have any where near this camera tech - yet he's timeless.

Great cam - but - I'll go out and do photography instead.

(disclaimer: sure the shift to mirrorless is the biggest deal since digital cameras, I'm excited to see where it goes, lets give it 5 years - as a professional I will have to shift one day to keep pace with the competition, until then, its ones ability/editing in 2018)

I bought mine on a whim and to be honest, you are right, it doesn’t make me take better photos. I can give you reasons but it’ll just be excuses to justify my purchase, nothing more. I didn’t get it to down size, or anything like that, the truth is I wanted new toys and deep down I want to see for myself what the eye AF is about along with the DR from Sony.

In practical terms I guess I can have a fractionally smaller camera for holiday. That’s about it.

That said, the Zeiss 50/1.4 is gorgeous, although that’s not something a layman can tell compare to the Sigma.

Yeah absolutely - the hard part about living in a world of commercialism is the constant kicking I've had to give myself not to get it - but its been a serious battle, your reasons are the same, I kept trying to say eye AF is worth it - but it's not gonna change my photography overnight, I know of 50 things I can investigate to make it 'better', but its just trying new things - so really its just practice.

Don't get me wrong I'd love one - but it pains me to say, I don't need one, I'll get by no problems.

One thing it will improve is more keepers, especially in portraits. It just saves a bit of time, and also headache.

Yeah I told myself the same thing a month before buying the A73. On the bright side the lenses I have now are considerably better than what I was using, not that I really needed them but it's nice, if an expensive indulgence.

It bugs me a little though, I wanted to switch back to Canon for years as having started with them they're just a little more comfortable to me personally but Canon insists on giving me no reason to bother with their cameras.
