The Stoke-On-Trent Thread

ahhh 3 happy years of living in stoke whilst at uni.... shelton is such a picturesque area :D

It's not all bad! It has...no, I've got nothing. It has no redeeming features.

Oddly, I like Stoke-on-Trent. I moved here 20 years ago and it's home. It's a dungpit and even the name is boring ('stoke' means 'place'), but I like it. I couldn't tell you why, but I do.

Right, I didn't know that about the entire Hanley plans. If that's true looks like we're in even a worse place than we were to start with then seeing as Tesco has bought half the City Centre and demolished it to build their expansion, and no business will follow...... hmm may have to ask the council what's going on.

I live and work in Hanley. There is building work for the Hanley development being done at the moment, so it can't have been entirely shelved. My workplace has had plans and schedules given to it because obviously it affects businesses in the city centre while it's going on. It has not been entirely shelved. Maybe cut back, possibly, but not shelved.

Was born in Stoke, lived in Shelton for 22 years then moved up to Tunstall for another 4 years finally escaped the place and now living in Liverpool.

I pop down to stoke every other week to see my family and occasionally catch a few live bands at the weekend. Although I have not done that in a long while. I intend to fix that next week.

Stoke is not a bad place and my heart will always belong to it. Just never want to live there again :P

Longton here.

The jobcentre has to have security, Santa got sparked out at Christmas but we have a massive Tesco next to sports direct and matalan so its not all gloom :p

Sagir express is awesome.

I still have family in Stoke (Blurton) and every time I visit (once a year) everything is just murky, the buildings look dirty compared to here, the skies are always cloudy, the smell of fish and chips is rife, my car gets extra dirty above all else!

Oatcakes need bacon and cheese on them and stoke is the only place to get proper oatcakes!

I have oatcake with bacon and cheese every sunday if I'm not at work

Oh god I love oatcakes! I don't live in Stoke but I have family up there so I have a constant supply shipped down to me every so often. :D

Depends what area of Blurton you're talking about, either the one by the high school or the top of Blurton, closer to the A50

Top :p I tend to drive around the whole of Stoke though, various other people and businesses dotted about to see.

I'm from the borough of st5 so I look down my nose at you peasants

Likewise, I live in ST5 next door to S-o-T. Whereabouts in ST5?

Born in Walsall (!) and lived most of my life there, but moved here to be closer to my wires family and to get a decent school for my lads.

When all's said and done, Stoke's got its issues much like any town or area has; there's good and bad bits. I've never had any issues with the people here, they've been very welcoming and I've had no problems even in the 'rougher' parts. I guess it's what you're used to, Walsall's hardly the heights of living (despite what some will try to convince you) and so being close to Stoke is no different really.

I've got family in Stoke (Hanley, and Biddulph, had some other folk who lived in Leek as well but thats not what I'd count as Stoke). My dad spent most of his early years living and working in Stoke so is a fan of the dirty potters. Much banter is had about oatcakes, the sennel, and such like but I have always found the people in Stoke to be really friendly and down to earth.

As a place its got its fair share of crappy areas but then I live in Wolverhampton so this is something I have grown accustomed to over the years! :D
