1080p or 1440p 6800xt. Everything else RTX 3080 is faster. RTX 3080 is massively faster in ray tracing games.

Good of them to include some RT stats. I'm using 1440p/1080Ti FTW3 heading to an ultrawide and RT is the only reason I'm upgrading.

My 3080 TUF OC was at queue position 45 on Friday. Fingers crossed it arrives next week.

There are games where the difference is like 10%, others 20%.. so the potencial is definitely there. We will see in the future .. with new games.. and optimizations how things are going to stay.

Both cards will have performance increases, but the 3080 clearly is faster with ray tracing hands down, in some cases dramatically faster

Unless you are someone who plays games as soon as they come out we all have backlogs. I haven't played RDR2 or Horizon ZD yet for example. That wasn't my point though and your post has gone off on a tangent explaining stuff everyone already knows. My point is that we should base performance on multiple reviews, as opposed to just ignoring one's that don't fit our message.

What is that message when your review is so heavily stack with games that are years old? there is nothing in his review that was developed with the RDNA2 architecture in mind, nothing. Hardware Unboxed has a mixture of old and new.

Ray Tracing
30% /50% ... where???!

If you exclude the weird cases... the difference is like 10%/15%.. and are even games where AMD has more performance than Nvidia.

Then check individual games. Also check other reviwers. This is what I gathered without spending much time. Would be nice for somebody to do a deep dive on RT AMD vs Nvidia but what I am seeing Nvidia are significantly ahead in terms of FPS in RT games, we are talking about 30%+, not marginal difference at 10%.

Have you not seen the benchmarks, the 3080 is clearly faster in ray tracing.

And presumably thats where the amd alternative to dlss will come in, super-resolution. Ray tracing is still pretty niche to say the least, the support is growing for it but for a lot of people it's not a be all end all feature currently. Most people would prefer higher framerates than the alternative of dramatically tanking framerate to see a few reflections.

At the end of the day I could buy a 6800 and I couldn't a 3080, and even when it was available it was at >200-300 euro extra (and much more as time went on). Hell even the 6800 XT is 100e cheaper than the cheapest 3070 that had ever been for sale. Not just in my country but across Europe in general.

All the discussions that centre around MSRP & as if cards are available are imo simply dumb. It's been 3 months since launch almost and Nvidia is still barely trickling out cards as if they're hand-made! Let's not kid ourselves about availability improvements until summer.

1080p or 1440p 6800xt. Everything else RTX 3080 is faster. RTX 3080 is massively faster in ray tracing games. RTX 3080 can be upto 15% faster in games at 4k because of the faster memory and better rops.

This was my conclusion too.
I'm a 4K gamer. Was ready to go AMD but thier card seems better catered to 1440p.

6800XT vs GTX3080 - my take away from everything so far is that, for the first time in a long while, it makes almost no difference which you buy if you're a gamer as you'll be getting a cracking card irrespective of brand..................if you could buy any of either anyway.................which makes "which one can I physically get hold of first" the more important question to many people now which is great for customers :D

We are talking before DLSS. It gets even more faster with dlss. Once NVidia drivers get SAM its lol.

Control section. Completely valid to play Control with DLSS as it looks so good in this game.

Control 4k DLSS on 3080 64.8fps and 6800xt 23fps. RTX 3080 massively faster

Control 4k DLSS off 3080 36.5fps and 6800xt 23fps. RTX 3080 is 13.5fps faster.

Control 1080p DLSS on 3080 136.9fps and 6800xt 70.2fps. 21:21

Control 1080p DLSS off 3080 105.7fps and 6800xt 70.2fps. 21:35

Minecraft 4k RTX on DLSS on, RTX 3080 87.4fps and 6800xt 13.9fps. 21:40

Minecraft 4k RTX on DLSS off, RTX 3080 32.8fps and 6800xt 13.9fps. 22:03

Minecraft 1080p RTX on DLSS on, RTX 3080 163.4fps and 6800xt 48.1fps. RTX 2060 is 65.5fps. 22:11

Minecraft 1080p RTX on DLSS off, RTX 3080 92.5fps and 6800xt 48.1fps. 22:26

The 6800xt is not future proof. Its ray tracing performance sucks. RTX 3080 better 4k performance because of better memory bandwidth. Soon SAM wont be an advantage. RTX 3080 is the better card. The 6800xt is a 1080p/1440p card, so much for the 16GB of vRAM.

6800xt has good rasterisation performance but poor ray tracing performance and no dlss feature. If you care about RT performance you should really be looking at Nvidia.

Whats 'lol' about this? The RTX 3080 seems to do better at 4K and doesn't get as severely crippled by RT? If you can link some benchmarks proving otherwise, I'd welcome them.

The advantage AMD holds is that big VRAM, and the future proofing which will subsequently likely come with it. However, I only personally hold faith in that IF the raw rastierisation in 4K was BETTER than NVIDIA, which it doesn't seem to be.

If you can enlighten me on why thats wrong or why I should go for AMD, please tell me. I'm not immediately purchasing either card as I want to see the Cyberpunk benchmarks too before making a decision and I'm honestly in no rush.

Most of my post history in recent time has been very pro-AMD and I waited and held of buying NVIDIA until they let us all know what they had packing.

Nvidia is 30% faster or more in RT heavy games WITHOUT dlss. With DLSS enabled it’s 60 fps vs 20 fps in something like control.

Check gamersnexus.

HUB is lame for not including RT benches. Clearly biased. SOTTr and dirt 5? Really?

Sure but if ray tracing is so important I'm willing to bet there'll be newer cards than either the 3080 or 6800 XT by the time it matters so I don't see much point stressing over it right now.

Well actually I happily play WDL at 4k (with DLSS) plus RT. Looks brilliant.

Have to agree.

+ for 6800 XT
6GB more video memory
Unlock extra performance through SAM and Rage Mode without overclocking
Cheaper

+ for 3080
Higher RT performance in most games (bar Dirt 5)
DLSS

I'm currently watching some reviews and performance was basically as they said, they trade blows back and forth, i've not seen anything that gives nvidia some kind of outright advantage at 4k. Some nvidia win, some amd win.
