Dam, I mean it says air but he must have done some sort of cheat somewhere? That's impressive none the less, wonder if a water cooled card could do that long term real world on an AIB?

He says "air" but if you watch how these guys do "air" overclocking it's cheating.

mall day 1 reviews showed these cards average 2200-2300 with the stock coolers own ability so there is no way someone is gonna pull an extra 300mhz out of thin air. What's most likely happened is the guy has stuck a portable air conditioner pipe over the card and possible extra fans around the card - just remove everything and take a nice photo that looks legit. Essentially the card is still working by itself but to cheat, they cool down the air going into the card by 20-40c.

Usually overclocking with a portable air conditioner yields better results than you sell see on any water loop unless you're putting ice water into the loop

The 6800XT is excellent and surpassed my expectations, I love it! Built like an absolute beast too, quality all round  Made my system silent too, and that's even with the PL pushed to the max (and a slight undervolt!). Running 1.1v and 2510 clock atm (2470ish in game).

RT isn't bothering me, as said all existing titles have been written for nVidia gpu's in mind. When stuff is optimised for AMD too I think it'll be ok :)

That's awesome dude glad its working out so well for you man.

I see what you did there did you? :D:D

I did think the picture was angled just so you cant see between the LN2 Pot and the back of the GPU, possibly some interconnected thermal transfer?

Its not implemented in games due to latency issues.. its a practical perspective..

Last few games used something like https://research.nvidia.com/sites/d...Variance-Guided-Filtering://svgf_preprint.pdf using the gameworks SDK I would guess. Non-DL.

NVIDIA OptiX is off line but my statement is Nvidia has an AI denoiser and has tensor cores to speed it up. How is that not right? Where is that wrong?

Ray tracing needs hacks (GI is one hack) because there are features it can't do well. It uses hybrid rendering for speed and for better quality. Nvidia has a good AI denoiser which helps reduce the spp need for an image. This runs on the tensor cores, AMD hardware has no tensor cores for AI. Pathtracing fixes the issues with ray tracing and does not need hacks for some features but is far more complex to process. Pathtracing is minecraft and Quake RTX. Ray tracing is Control. Dirt 5 is resterisation with RT shadows on the cars only.

In this statement I am talking generally about the technology of ray tracing and pathtracing, not about games. It seems very clear to me from rereading it that this was my intension. I only give examples of games that use pathtracing and ray tracering as examples of the two technologies differences. There are videoes that show features in minecraft you cant do in Control. Like multiple different colour light sources mixing.

Did you just hit a "Line" before typing that?

Superb, glad to hear it mate!!

Loving the sound of an overclock, with an undervolt, running silently. Will be exactly how i run mine.

Jealous you've got one before me though. :p

What? i can't hear you.

Whats that 3080 needs more vram because of godfalls HD texture pack. 10GB too small. O wait the texture pack is not a problem, what a supprise. Dirt 5 uses Rt shadow on the cars, but we will ignore the performance problems on every other RT game for the 6800xt. This is not nitpicking, every argument you make is non sense.

Do you know how many games that are available that support DLSS and RT? I thought it was only supported in a dozen games.

The amount of games is irrelevant, there are only going to be more and more as time goes on.

Pretty much the majority of the games with RT also have DLSS, because without it they would be unplayable.

The point I'm making is without some form of DLSS type of technology on either vendor, ray tracing becomes practically useless, especially at higher resolutions.

If I were buying now and wanted to catch up with some games like control or metro for example, and wanted to try ray tracing then it makes it difficult to choose a 6800xt because frame rates at 4k would make it unplayable, because there is no ai upscaling available to help with the heavy lifting ray tracing requires.

Then we have cyberpunk releasing soon, which again will probably mean without DLSS it would be unplayable with RT enabled, meaning it will only probably be playable with RT on nvidia until AMD sort their 'super resolution' out
