Watch it all or skip to 5 minutes in, this is the performance when there isn't enough VRam, despite this the 5700XT still ran this a little better.

Looks like the FPS drops due to scene complexity. Once you enter indoor areas the card should have everything it needs except the grunt to render?

Its really sad to see all this bickering over the 6800xt because its a competitive offering on par with the 3080. It, at times, can beat a 3090 depending on title.

We haven't seen amd in the enthusiast end of gpus in years. And, as drivers mature its very likely that the 6800xt surpasses the 3080. Perhaps on par with the 3090.

However, there is a more deeper concern for Nvidia. Its the 6900xt. Personally, I don't see 8cu bump being that much faster in games. However, based on its price point and performance it certainly looks to be a card to have over the 3090.

As the performance delta between the 6800xt vs 3080 does not show a better gaming experience. We are just comparing which number is higher vs how that number reflects the game. For example, those games with over 100fps is a complete wash. As developers don't create gaming engines to be sensitive to fps that high.

I can lock the fps in Mw2019 to 80fps and play online with the same competitiveness as I do at 200 fps. There is a lot of marketing about higher fps which at a point doesn't mean anything. Higher fps is only king of marketing imo.

Just down to not wanting to buy the wrong card. For me RT is important, so I have a 3080 on order. I keep looking in just incase AMD have been hiding performance.

To me it looks like Nvidia has won this round for next gen visuals, while AMD has won on legacy FPS. If need be I'll stick a post-it note in the corner 'FPS 999999 10GB plenty' :p

At which moment exactly you went over 8GB vRAM? That drop to under 30fps is due to poor servers and dx11. Basically badly coded (so far) game.

And Blender :)
Random side tangent, the cycles render engine was started after Brecht return to the blender instute in 2011. I believe he working on the Octane render engine prior to his return.

As for rt its not s selling point imo as it never adds anything to the game's immersion. Even Steve from HU said as much. So its no focal point.

Since we know the performance of the 6800xt and 3080 it really comes down to which is cheaper and available at this point. And so far amd is leading the way.

Talking about blender, i do wonder how well the 6900XT will be in rendering with those extra CUs. Hopefully AMD can put more support in the Rendering side of things.

You just gave someone an idea on using those reusable clear plastic post-its.

It would have been nice if rt actually did more then have us stare at puddles and windows though. But for me I'll pass. :p

Looks like the biggest scam going...lol Been in "development" how long?
Scamteen years now :D

You have it slightly wrong. In the latest games AMD are doing better. Dirt 5 is the latest RT game and AMD win. Nvidia seem to win more on legacy games that were designed with there cards in mind. I can see the 6800xt getting better with time as more console games are ported over. The 5700xt also appears to be improving.

Star Citizen is a strange beast, often quoted as needing n numbers of cores more than I currently have. I'll wait for version 1 final to come out and then maybe take a look. It'll probably be expensive though to recoup all the dev spending.

have two friends that work for Cloud Imperium Games - I think it's more of a case that the design is so expansive that it has taken along time (and will still require significant development).

Probably not - nearly all current dev costs (and a significant period of future costs) have been covered by kick-starters, backers, patrons etc.

Hopefully the story portion of the game comes out before they run out of money because the way it all has been managed has been a bit poor. Hopefully they stick to a roadmap and not add or change anything else anymore.

Just noticed that the 6800 and xt on here only have a 2 year warranty, bit less than i would have expected.

Meh unless its a new for old replacement or refund they're not worth the paper they're printed on in my experience RMA with manufacturers wait months to get something back then its obviously just some old thing they had lying around that turns out to be faulty in a different way to the one you returned.

That would mean it will be 5% behind the 3090.. I'm really curious how Nvidia are going to price these cards, especially with AMD being where they are.
I mean some of teh AIB 3080's are already close to 1k, at what point wouldn't you get a 6900xt?

6900xt is £903 pounds + 10 delivery. Its already out there. Thats AMDs RRP for the UK.

Unfortunately once NVIDIA releases 3080 Ti the 6900XT would be a rather hard sell. Firstly when you have so much cash to burn on 1 GPU these cards should be aimed at 4K 120hz. 3080 and 6800XT turned out competitive at 1440p and 1080p when AMD’s marketing compared both cards with SAM and rage disabled. But 3080 pulled ahead by 7.4% at 4K. The 3090 is about 13% faster than 3080 at 4K. AMD turned on Rage and Sam while comparing the 6900XT to 3090 indicating it won’t be all that competitive without them.

So even with the absence of the 3080 Ti, its hard to justify why you would pay £300 more than a 3080 for roughly 10% rasterisation boost at 4K over a 3080 but with RTX performance below that of a 3070 and no DLSS at the moment.

I think the 3080 Ti would be a killer GPU once it release at £999.

When we start casually talking £900-£1000 for a gpu and then realise, for that amount you could get a top end cpu and mobo.
Everything becomes a harder sell.
But I don't think that the 3080's are gimped that much by just the amount of ram, would they make the 3080ti by just going 3080+ extra ram+£100 = et voila? Or would it be more a 3090 - some ram- £200 = get it down ya?
