The thread which sometimes talks about RDNA2

How is this an answer to my question? My question was about why running out of GPU horsepower is an acceptable excuse to turn down settings? If you want to talk about the balance between VRAM amount and GPU horsepower there is a 130 page thread with no conclusion for you to post in.
P.S. Someone already pointed out why this argument isn't as strong as you might think in that thread but it was conveniently ignored.

What?

When the cost of my 1080Ti has 11gb of vram baked-in and I have yet to be able to get playable frame rates while using less than 8gb. The vram buffer was ready and waiting, but the GPU couldn't keep up.

I paid for vram that I never used.

Vram alarmist: "I don't want to have to turn down settings to get playable frame rates in the future."

Me: "You already have to turn down settings to get playable frame rates.....now."

Well from what i read on other reviews the game is filled with bugs and bad AI so most likely it is a rushed game to be able to cash in before Christmas.
That will also explain why the FPS is so low.

So your primary reason for buying a 1080ti was that it had 11GB of VRAM? Or did you buy it for the performance that the GPU die offered? Did you by any chance make sure that the rest of your system didn't bottleneck the GPU die? (fast enough processor, enough system RAM etc..)

Also you do realise that to get the benefits of a certain quantity of ram doesn't mean you need to use all of it, you just need to use an amount of memory that is more than the next RAM config down. Example, to get the benefit of 16gb of system RAM you just need to be in a position were you need to use more than 8GB. At which point you have already benefited from having 16GB.

This proves that nobody is even reading what other people are writing in that thread.

Blimey, if you wanted to play Cyberpunk like it was something on your bucket list and you bought a 6800XT you'd be absolutely devastated.
Why, is the game unplayable or something? Accordint to the Toms hardware results it looks fine without RT enabled.

The game is not getting any decent scores across the board. Some are giving it a 9/10 but many others are at 3/5 so I'll wait until it's on sale. I prefer Witcher 3 style fantasy anyway.

"But CDPR is working with AMD to get it in soon." (Let's be honest, it's an Nvidia sponsored game, it's hardly a surprise. I'm waiting for the whole fun of Crysis comedy to have been deliberately put in there just in RT form. Tessellation with thousands of polygons on flat surfaces anyone?)

It's single player. Hardly an issue if you need to wait a little bit. If you really want RT, then buy the Nvidia card though.

I haven't bought a system to play ONE game in years. I stopped doing that. It's a fools game.

6800XT gets 33.8fps on average using ultra settings so not great.
RTX cards are saved by DLSS to some extent and 3080 gets 65.4fps on average using DLSS quality mode.

That's at 4K and how many gamers are gonna play in that resolution? Majority will be at 1440P or Ultrawide. The 6800XT can run it at 1440P Ultra at 68fps which is enough but I expect even more once the drivers and the day 1 patch are out.

The reviews are saying RT is done well in this title. I'll take the FPS hit at 1440p, but I'm not a pro gamer.
I need 120FPS or thereabouts ideally at 5120x1440 @120 HZ, so any perf hog quality settings are auto off. That goes for any effect tbf, not just RT. Texture settings always maxed out though.

A rushed game? Hmm......

Nothing new there, even with delays most games are released early as they can just slap patches on them at will. Look at battlefield 5, delayed and still a buggy mess on launch and had a ton of missing features that only started to appear 7 or 8 months ago.

RT gets automatically disabled though, perf hit not worth the quality improvement. :)
Gona be fun using your own words against you soon when a game eventually comes out that needs more than 10gb. I will be using yeah but it is just one game and perf hit is not worth the quality improvement (regarding textures) :D

Actually think you will find 1080p is the most popular. 1440p is still a minority and UW is quite tiny.
Last time I check Steam 1080p was still by far the most popular res.
