The thread which sometimes talks about RDNA2

TD2 is one of the better choices to test tbh, because it's very compute/fp32 heavy and it actually puts a proper load on all those shader cores Ampere packs, hence the high power usage. It's also why AMD & NV traded places here this time, as it used to be "AMD favoured" (but really it was just the hw was better for the game).

I wonder if Ampere being so compute heavy means we'll see more compute heavy games in the future

howcome division 2 is compute heavy? It seems to be and amd sponsored title

I know what you're saying but if Nvidia sponsorship is the key driver behind game design then amd would be the opposite so you'd expect to not see compute heavy in an amd game no?
Games are designed around consoles, the previous gen consoles were based on GCN which was compute heavy. With the next generation of games being based around RDNA 2, games will be built to take advantage of the strengths of RDNA 2.

Assuming that Nvidia designed Ampere to be more inline with GCN and the consoles, AMD have duked them by going in the other direction. Lets see how this plays out.

They must have methods other than spamming F5 all day.

Got lucky for me, spammed F5 for 5mins and just got timing right. After missing the 3080FE multiple times and the 6800xt I just thought screw it. Need a card for this paperweight I've got and lucked out finally!

I am not knocking these people but look at the quotes from 28 October when AMD announced their GPU line up. Especially with the RX 6900 XT.

Lisa straight up murdering Nvidia on stage :D
Wow, matching and even beating the 3090!
If its sub £1000 they just made the 3090 a door stopp
Faster than a 3090 for $999!
Oooo matching and beating the 3090, with lower power..........for £1k. LOL nVIDIA.
3090 got spanked
999!!! omg makes me 3090 look like crap...
haha 3090....

Yeah.....you were all sold an Unicorn but given an Mule or probably your expectations were WAY too high.

RX 6900 XT isnt a bad card but the RTX 3090 still is the king.

After seeing the 6900xt reviews and benchmarks, i dont feel so bad for buying a 3090... if i dont take cost of the card into consideration :p.

The 3090 is poor value for money but the 6900xt is just poor period - we'll see what happens with AIB cards but as long as the 6900xt is restricted by AMD in its power limit and clocks, it will continue to make no sense against the 6800xt and rtx3080. The 3090 still has a performance at any cost crown and there are always people in that market, I'm not sure how many people are in the market to pay $300-$400 extra for the same 6800xt just to have a "9" in the name instead of an "8" - heck I should buy some 6800xt and use a pen to scratch out the 8 and replace with a 9, non one will notice the difference :p

Wow... do you mean that people, most of who are AMD fans, were getting overly excited up for a very hyped product in an AMD thread? And were jumping to conclusions based on little evidence? Well thanks, that IS news!:eek::eek:

It happens with every launch from both camps and is nothing of note. :p

I was going off reviews from AMD, I have a 3090 so I’m not bothered about the 6900XT. :)

It's a shame AMD didn't move earlier to compete with Turing.
Lol I do find it funny when people make such statements.

Yeah it is indeed such a shame they didn't have infinite resources to tackle both CPU and GPU markets after being close to bankrupt for years :p

That just isn't true though. Out the two you have to decide if you want to pay an additional £500 for RT performance because that is what the extra cost difference is at end of day. Other than that they very much trade blows with general performance, win some, loose some and pretty close in the review. It wins out both in 1080p & 1440p and if you are doing 1440 that is ideal for 144hz monitors for instance like myself. At 4k it sits between the 3080 & 3090. That fair enough for the price difference I feel. As mentioned though, you want RT and halo product go for the 3090. But yeah to say poor period is some rubbish there.

And even if you look at the cost per frame then the 3090 is almost 50% at that. Then add on the power consumption. It quite a bit different which when you building something like I am with an SF power supply etc then you are likely not going to be able to power the 3090 comfortably. There are deffo downsides to the 6900xt and yes a 6800xt makes much more sense but the same for the 3080 to 3090. Both really are the same halo product from respective brands and both really give the same result. Poor value for monies and that is up to the person to decide if the 7% or so performance over the next model down is worth well 1.5x more from AMD or 2.2x as much from Nvidia.

Also not sure why you are worried about it's clocks limit, it is already limited to 3000Mhz which nothing will be hitting at best till possibly on water. What you appeared to have done is ignore the performance gain you do actually have between the 6800xt and 6900xt, add an extra £100 to the price in that assumption too but then ignore all those same points for the 3080-3090 comparison.

I watched Linus' review in bed last night and fell asleep, I take it the 6900XT didn't do that well :p:o

I personally feel the prices of the 6900XT is too high compared to the performance of the 6800XT and the same with the 3090 V the 3080. My sensible head is telling me to go with the tier down from the top, Not often I have a sensible head but when I can upgrade (when stock is available), I will go for either the 6800XT or 3080.
