I understand how people can get excited about where Ray Tracing could take us in the future, and how today's RT tech is part of how we get to that future, but I don't understand they excitment with they phase we are in now.

RT tanks performance so bad right now that this point on the RT time line is something to be "endured".
IMO, they truly don't believe it. No matter how loud they shout about it. All it does is, at best, promote loyalty to a brand.

RT is over rated. Too many reflections on games at night is horrible too.

You still get reflections without RT in games. I don't know what the big fuss is.

I bet if you told someone that RT was turned on in a game they were playing and it wasn't, they would believe you.

The amount it tanks your FPS too, it's not worth it, even on the Nvidia cards.

Sounds like you have been watching HU videos ;)

You can have SSR in titles without RT, but that as the name suggests is limited to what is in screen space. You end up with artifacts around objects placed in front of reflective areas and at the edges of the screen. You also get no reflections from what is off screen. There are various papers and videos scattered around explaining this in detail. Google is your friend.

In some titles it is very difficult to tell when RT is being used as it's only used for small spot effects such as shadows. Cyberpunk 2077 looks great without RT, but is jaw dropping when you max it out on a 3080/3090. Static screen shots and even Youtube videos don't do it justice. It adds to the immersion when done well.

I'm enjoying a stealthy Cyberpunk 2077 play through with RT phsyco settings and DLSS quality at 1440p with 32GB DDR3 and a 3770k. I swear I heard my 3080 laugh as I swapped out the 1080Ti. My SSDs are of the SATA variety with games installed on a seperate drive than the OS. I don't use FPS counters as they break immersion. I've had no issues so far due to slow downs and I'm ~20hours in to the game.

This is the major caveat with RT and something that is a bit of a performance hit but having played with it off and on in CP2077, it is honestly a game changer IMO. I am playing with a 2080Ti at 3440x1440 and with pretty much everything on Ultra, it looks fantastic. Reflections, shadows and lighting really do make the game worthwhile just walking about.

The 3070 gives roughly the same performance as my 2080Ti, so price wise, not that bad and I will ignore ECH's crap about DLSS blurring the image. RT is here and playable and looks great IMO.

Genuinely hoping AMD get their FideltyFX finished soon, so they can also get decent performance in CP2077 and others can see the game and enjoy it (ignoring bugs) like I am :)

The benchmarks I have listened to, (YT while driving) have all had ultra settings result in terrible performance. Do you have a magic 2080 Ti, or do you just not notice when your FPS tank?

I generally sit around 45-60 fps. The only time I had major frame drops was when a mission involved loads of people. I have G-Sync also, which keeps things nice and smooth.

On the amd site. Was checking there earlier today, seems theyre dropping at anytime now. :(
I've been checking all day and nothing in discord either.

I don't think discord is all that great tbh. Never used it before, and it doesn't seem to be very good at tracking anything other than a handful of (large) etailers.

Twitter has been better for me.
Can you elaborate at all? Finding anywhere that tracks AMD.com has proved to be a wild goose chase.

I don't think this contravenes the competitors rule? I'm only interested in MBA cards so OcUK aren't stocking those anthow.

Apparently it contravenes the rules!

Almost finished my new build, 5600x B550 and 32 gig of 8 pack ram...

Looks like it could be a while though to fill that big hole in the middle of the case.. So frustrating...

It does contravene the rules.
Saw a post deleted that said exactly the same.

Ahh fair enough, I'll remove the link etc in my post just in case. Could you remove the quote of mine from your post though too please :P
