The Touchpad Android thread

I'd like Android on my Touchpad but am pretty confused and just looking for a one stop shop install, not really interested in updating every ten minutes, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251213927465?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 this guy is offering the service but I'm not sure if it's what I want / need.

Any advice please.

Thanks

guy called reverend kyle has made the best install videos on youtube for the touchpad, step by step installation, even a 12 year old could do it following his videos.

Well cheers chaps all done and working lovely, sprung new life into the touchpad

I found in the end this easier to follow

And this for the files

Then this for the finishing as the video is easier to follow from starting CMD

Got stuck on Novacom but found this

And using the Acme Installer 2 which isn't in the video

Sorry if you all know this but it's taken me all night to sift though old and dead links to downloads and other files and instructions.

Just got my TP back and installed CM10.1 having previously run webOS exclusively. While I enjoyed webOS, Android seems to be smoother really - a breath of fresh air :o

I sold my touchpad because it was simply terrible to use the stock os is too basic and android ain't a smooth experience. Much prefer the nexus 7 much nicer size, slimmer and everything works.

I think a lot of people just bought them because they were so cheap. I imagine most of them just ended up in a drawer somewhere collecting dust.

IMO your better off getting a newer device which runs android natively

I use my every day , it's running android and I mostly use it at lunch for neflix or BBC iplayer also at home for Samsung TV remote and general Web browsing. It's served me well for what I wanted it for. I might get a new tablet sometime this year but I am in no hurry to change my touchpad.

I still use mine daily too. It's my alarm clock and night time media centre on the charging stand! Using CM10 on it, very little to complain about for my needs. Albeit quite heavy, i much prefer it to a 7" tablet sizewise.

I'll only upgrade when it breaks down or isn't powerful to do something I want it to. One factor that could get me buying another tablet is Sky Go but i'll still keep the touchpad.

Got to say I'm trying to flash mine back to stock WebOS as after all this time I've finally realised that it's a much nicer OS than any of the Android versions........but then I don't use many apps and it's just a web browser/porn hub for me!

Do you not have the option to boot into either when switching the touchpad on? I can't remember exactly how i installed android as it was a long time ago but i can select between webos and android when the touchpad is restarted.

Yes I do have a dual boot atm.......however, it's never run properly since I installed Android - far too many quirks and rebooting in the middle of the night and odd things going on, whereas WebOS always ran perfectly.

Having a nightmare, acmeuninstaller won't work. CMD keeps saying device not found :(

EDIT - ended up getting it to work, deleting everything on the 'SD card' and resinstalling webOS so I can start again. My god webOS is a clunky OS!!
