The Turing RTX 2080 Ti Owners Thread

DX12 is turning into an epic fail, so many promises of performance and image improvements that have not materialised.

Game devs will do the absolute minimum to get games onto the market and any extra work with DX12 is a waste of money and resources for them.

This is something others and myself said from the get-go.

Putting more of the onus on games developers to implement scaling than before was destined to be a mixed bag of results. To put it as plainly as possible, if NVIDIA doesn't see the market for it and do very little to upsell, what are the chances developers will.

I was one of those who was saying it from the get go.:)

The only really big performance bump I have seen with DX12 is when I used it on ROTTR at 1080p with 2080 Ti cards in SLI where I got about 30% more fps, all higher resolution there was very little difference between DX11 and DX12.

Having said that who in their right mind would use 2080 Ti SLI at 1080p to get over 200fps.

Care to explain why ...

You may even have a point but really need to use some evidence rather than just hearsay.

Nvidia never expected to move from DX11 once Microsoft decided to focus it's directory X team one the Xbox and essentially all but kill off direct X support on the PC. The Nvidia solution was to offload the work to interacted CPU cores on the graphics card. ARM based IIRC. Along with deffered contexts and black box SDK work. Then Microsoft dropped the ball on the Xbox one and Mantle put the fear of God into them causing Microsoft to make a u turn on Windows as a gaming platform.

Tons of information on the topic.

Does anyone know how long RMA takes from Nvidia? i know my card only failed yesterday but i also need it for work.

Contact them and they should do an advanced RMA for you. They will send you a 2080Ti and you send the faulty card back to them after that. Not sure how long it will take though. If you explain it's for work they might get one out faster to you.

I remember at the time nvidia having big issues with a lot of DX12. I am just curious it this is still true. I was surprised by the performance boost in games that use vulkan like doom i believe on the 2080 and wondered if this had improved some of the issues they had. Nvidia in the past has done a lot of shaddy things to make there graphics card look best, just curious about the truth with DX12 performance I think a lot of it is probably still at the developer level currently, i mean ROTR runs better in DX12 why is this the case only in that game ?

Well Nvidia have a massive ISV team and pay/sponsor just about any dev/engine team willing to work with them, to optermise for thier hardware. Deduce from that what you will.

Hey Everyone,
joining up as sounds like this is the place to be. Posting a pic is causing me issues though..anyone care to let me know how, and I'd gladly post a pic of my card sitting in the PC.
Regards

Use Imgur, and select from the options it gives you. You can preview it before you submit, but you can always edit your post if you're not happy with the size.

Is it possible to still RMA with Nvidia unused sealed founders edition from fleabay should issues arise?
From nVidia's site;

LIMITATIONS OF WARRANTY
This warranty applies only to the original purchases of the Warranted Products from a retailer, mail order operation, or on-line retail store; this warranty will not extend to any person that acquires a Warranted Product on a used basis.

If it's sealed and you have the invoice, I'm guessing they'll only refund or send back to the original owner?

I contacted Nvidia twice and on both occasions they said as long as I have the order number, date of order and picture of serial number on card I will able to RMA if required.
