Gents, bear with me, im the utimate noob with cameras!

Ive got a GF3, with the Pana 14MM Pancake lens, the 14-42 and a 45-200mm. Ive just started playing with cameras and feel brave enough to switch from auto mode.

Im popping to Dubai in a couple of weeks, just wondering which of my lenses i should chuck in the suitcase, im going to be doing a desert safari and a boat cruise whilst overthere and the usual malls and what not! Just want the best combo, for pic quality and something not so cumbersome to lug around!

For me, it would be the 14-42 and 45-200. If the pancake were a faster lens I'd be more inclined to recommend that, but it's only 2/3 stop faster than the 14-42 at 14mm which isn't a huge advantage vs. being able to zoom in my opinion.

-edit-

Actually I think it's a full stop faster, I thought it was f/2.8. Either way though, I'd want a pancake to be closer to f/2 for me to consider having solely that. Particularly on a holiday, zooms are just more versatile if you're learning how to use the camera.

The 14mm is so tiny I'd take it regardless - nice and compact and reasonably fast if you want to take your camera out in the evenings. I'd take the lot to be honest, unless you're flying handluggage only.

I am currently in the market for a u4/3 camera and have narrowed my search down to the Panasonic GX7 and Olympus EM10.

Budget is £500 and both of these are pretty much on that amount with a kit lens.

Any info or advice on which to purchase would be much appreciated.

Nice choice to be making. Both are cracking bodies by all accounts and there's really nothing in it in terms of IQ.

So it comes down to specific features vs handling, really. I'd really try and get your mitts on them to have a play. Features wise... GX7 has 1/8000 vs 1/4000, higher res tilting EVF, silent shutter, slightly better video. E-M10 has higher fps, more focus points, arguably better jpegs and a bunch of really useful modes for long exposures (live composite, live bulb/time). GX7 is limited to 2 minute exposures in bulb mode. I'd imagine that even the cut-down IBIS in the E-M10 is probably a smidge better than the GX7's.

If you do go to test them out, look up how to enable the Super Control Panel on the Olympus - this pretty much transforms the shooting experience and stops you needing to go into the horrible Olympus menus 99% of the time.

Decided after leaving my camera behind too many times (then regretting not being able to take any shots) to be part of the club with something a little smaller with just the one lens, yet just as capable. Got an incoming EM5ii with 12-40mm on the way (Thanks again infernox for the code)
