The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Those sneaky sneaks. Amazon still have it at £405, albeit out of stock. If not in a rush then thats what I'd go for.

Came back into stock and not only did I give in to temptation but while order was still in transit noticed today they they've reduced price to £388 ... quick email and they are giving me a refund of the difference. 75-300 is also down by £10 to £350 ... may feel obliged to get that as well before the £100 cash back on that ends as well

Thanks for the info. 9-18mm for £270 is fantastic. Fingers crossed for the 60mm macro to crop up sometime soon!

Anyone an EPL-5 got a leather half-case they would recommend? I'm looking for something to protect the body when I'm out and not taking a bag, but allow different lenses.

I'm going to a few weddings this year so I'm thinking to get a pancake lens, mostly for portraits and general shots, also as its compact it means I can carry it on other occasions too so for street shots etc.

I figure faster would be better, but in terms of 14, 17 or 20mm I'm not sure what would be more appropriate.

Panasonic H-H014E Lumix G Pancake Lens (14 mm, F2.5 Wide-Angle) - £267
Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm 1:2.8 Pancake Lens - Black - £229
Panasonic : LUMIX G 20mm F1.7 II ASPH. - £268

Just note that the AF has fairly slow AF. It's definitely slower than the 17mm. If you plan on zone focusing for street/wedding, then it'll be fine, but if you plan on using the AF then maybe try it out on your body first if you can.

The 20mm also has banding issues on certain bodies with certain sensors.

Quick update - got the 9-18 now, submitted online cash back claim (filled in contact and bank details plus upload PDF "printed" from Amazon "your orders" invoice) and £120 arrived in my account a couple of days ago - very efficient

Never saw any of that when I was shooting m4/3, I also found the AF plenty fast for any situation enough unless the OP is planning on shooting wasps in mid flight. Can't comment on the sensor issue though as I only used it on Panasonic bodies.

Thanks for the comments, I'm really interested in the 20mm but the banding I'm reading about doesn't sound good. I don't know whether to just order it anyway and hope I don't hit high ISO that often as by all accounts the lens and picture quality is better than the 17mm. I also need to order today so it can arrive before I leave on Thursday.

edit2: Went for the Panasonic 20mm. Let's hope I don't take too many pics over ISO1600.

Two additional questions:
1. Has anyone used the Olympus software to update their E-PL5 firmware? I tried it today but it just says that it can't be used with my camera.

2. On my travels I seem to have lost the hotshoe/AP2 cover for the camera. The only place I can see a (black) replacement is eBay. Anyone found any alternatives?

edit1: White hot shoe cover & Black hot shoe cover on the Olympus site, but the black one is listed as E-PL3 although they look identical. Figure it will work OK?

edit2: Still after a half-case, the only one I can seem to find is KAZA Half Case + Strap, but I would prefer it if it fitted without the E-PL5 grip. Can't see any other options around though.

Guys this sounds stupid but here goes. Do I have to order from the Olympus store to take advantage of the £120 bonus?

I'm just deciding on what lenses I want for when I travel, I'm thinking

9-18
17mm 1.8
25mm 1.4

Gives me a nice and wide angle for landscapes, a good portrait lens and a fun walkabout prime!

Can't see me doing any macro work, but I can certainly see the appeal!

My logic behind the 17mm was that I LOVE my 35L 1.4...and this is the closest lens to it. Makes sense to me!

Nope can order from any official retailer. Amazon has the 9-18 for 362 before cashback today! So 242 quid after cashback. Buybuybuy!

The 17 and 25 are fairly similar, no? Considered a longer portrait lens like the 45? It's inexpensive and brilliant.

Oh sweet. Payday on Sunday... :)

Plus I just sold my Sigma 85mm 1.4 as well so that more than covers it.

17 and 25 are similar, but they cover 2 of my favourite focal lengths, 35 and 50mm on the full frame. :)

45 would be nice as it gives me a 90mm prime which is basically the same as what I just sold :D

Problem is I want ALL the glass :p
