The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Super zoom 14-140 excellent probably the best for its all round use sharp ,light small and compact the mk2 you could pair this with the pana Leica 100-400mm expensive but worth it then you have 28-800mm in just over kilo package
If you want out and out iq then the primes will give you this especially the Panasonic ones the pro zooms are probably better from Olympus in my view over Panasonic
But there are some value lenses that surprise the 20mm is well regarded for sharpness etc but focuses a little slower both 45mm budget lenses perform well then you have the so called exotic glass the Olympus 300mm prime,75mm prime and the nocticron specialised lenses
The 14-140mm does have its foibles though can be jittery in video if you only want lens the this would be first choice

Go for it Panasonic video is one of the best and the gx80 is probably one of the best for handholding although no mic input

Is that Lion taken on the Pana 100-300mm?
How did you find it? I'm in the market for a bird lens for my G6 and that is the obvious choice.

Loving this new prime!

And the 7-14mm @ 14mm still proves to be an excellent lens for pano's

GX80 on the way, G6 sold, so obviously I bought this to torture myself with while I'm camera-less!

Did a quick test and I'm impressed. Can't wait to use it in anger for video. Really want the 35-100 also but unfortunately not made of money :( I have the 35-100 f4-5.6 coming with the GX80 though and apparently it's quite good.

great choice the gx80 video is will be perfect for hand holding with dual is +electronic ,even at 800mm achievable I am going to wait though for autumn oct when the omd em-1 replacement comes or the gh5 ,if it has in built ibis in gh5 the reason for Olympus will diminish ,maybe hi res hand holding might sway it
the 35-100mm is a great lens if you look at wex they have a few second hand ones perfect weight and good for indoor shots and now Panasonic have done away with filter it will resolve even more detail .
the 12-60mm looks compelling as well .and weather sealed nice .

Was curious to see how the Olympus EM5-II handles infrared work and I did some googling last night. I found some blog posts and whatnot showing very promising results with an EM5, so the mark II in theory should be better...right? :p

Anyway, might order a basic screw in IR filter when I get back from travelling and give it a whirl. I remember really enjoying IR work years ago when I first got into photography, but haven't shot it in ages.

Doubt I'll be going down the full conversion route just yet, but we'll see :p

Did a little bit of IR with my E-M5. Worked quite well, most of the lenses I tried seemed to have a pretty strong central hotspot though which can be a bit fiddly to counter in post.

I've owned my E-M5II since July and have pretty much used it everyday since November. One thing that has always bugged me slightly is the focusing...selecting big rectangles...

Well today I actually downloaded the manual and looked it up, turns out you can change the big rectangles to small specific squares...

RTFM!!!

Idiot me! :p

I haven't even considered firmware upgrades yet, I don't have the USB cable with me to do it. Makes me wonder on what I'm missing out on! :o

Thing is, up until last year...I used Canon bodies only. Never really needed to use the manual, they're all similar enough once you know how to work them.

Think I should actually read the manual this time, it's very different and has a ton of features I'm not completely 100% on! :)

Standard Panasonic MFT feature since way back.

3, 5 or 7 capture bracket with 1/3, 2/3 or 1 EV steps.

You can set the sequence to be 0/-/+ or -/0/+ as well.

Excellent.

I am seriously contemplating stepping in to MFT system and ordering the Panasonic GX80. Purely for times when I went to travel light but have greater flexibility and control than my RX100mkiii offers, kinda a shame that it is 16MP rather than 20MP - but never mind. Also, the GF could make good use of the MFT system. It's light and will allow her to get more involved in photography.

You're on the money Steve. My girlfriend is getting more involved for similar reasons. Where its lightweight and small she feels confident grabbing the camera and experimenting. The prime lens has really helped. It's making her think more about it all and getting creative. :)

Does looks like a good option. Where have you pre-ordered yours from? There seems no real word on when in May it will get released from what I can tell.

Is the construction made out of plastic or is the silver one part metal I wonder?

Totally new to MFT - Is the 12-32mm kit lens package worth getting? I see the lens on it's own is worth about £239 or so (!), but is it any good?

Looking at the other range of lens, woah.. it's a minefield, so much choice.

So far I have my eye on the Olympus 45mm f/1.8.

Any suggestions for ultra wide?
