The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Then the GX80 is definitely worth a look, a lot of spec for its size. The main thing that pushed me to the GX8 was the better EVF, the GX80s is OK but it's small and some people get a rainbow effect from its somewhat ancient field sequential LCD.

I find the mobile app a bit unreliable. Plus I want to set the camera up and leave it taking 5 second shots until the battery dies and walk away whilst it does it. Can the mobile app do that?

Ill check tonight. From memory the app can start or stop anything although you may have to set your camera first to the relevant settings for 5 second exposures etc but thats not different to having a remote.

Ive not had any problems with the remote app and love the liveview on your screen. Saved me getting a remote release and you can change a lot of settings from the app.

Range is pretty good too at 25m

Things you can control:

Shooting Mode (iAuto, Program, Aperture, Shutter, and Manual)
Shutter Speed
Aperture
Exposure Compensation
ISO
White Balance
Sequential Shooting / Self Timer
You can also select “Touch to Focus” or Touch to Shoot” like on the LCD screen
Live Time and Live Bulb are also available in Manual Mode.

Only histogram missing on live view is the only annoying thing.

Whats the best UK based forums for buying used kit from? Not really need anything right now but will probably pick up a lens in a few months and imagine I may need to get posting for MM access.

I settled on a gift for the Mrs. I decided that the GX80/8, whilst both look great, were going to be a little over budget considering i'm supposed to be saving for a New York holiday.

I decided to go with the EOS M3. It has mostly positive reviews and I liked the feel of it, plus at £365 with the 18-55 (way more utility than the other kit lenses on offer) it's not a bad price. Also, i can take any EF glass i want from work so that works out alright.

Then if down the line she likes it or wants more, we can re-assess.

My precious.........

bought a GX80 the other week

and its absolutely fantastic ! :)

I'll try and post some photos up later in the week - but its brought a new life to my 14-140 II, and the 12-32 that came with it is not too shabby either :)

the 5 axis stabilisation works very very well - and video is very good quality - as you'd expect from a Panasonic. The in body IBIS means I've lost the "jitter" I'd get with my 14-140 previously

what has really surprised me though is the photo quality - which is much much better than my G6 - reminds me of the output from my Nex 5n - colour and DR wise -but if anything even sharper

the only negative - can hear Lens stabilisation noise in the background of every video - as the mic is about 1/2 cm from the lens ...

<edit> see a couple of photos I uploaded onto EOSHD - mine are the Red Poppy and a 100% crop of my daughter's eye - I think they're very detailed considering taken with the 14-140

1st shots with Olympus 300mm F4

Wowzers!! :D

That is a serious lens right there, saving up the pennies for that one you have!

So where are the sample shots??

I've sold all my Canon gear, 2 bodies and 5 lenses to pay for my conversion to m4/3.
I'm now going to sell my gimbal as I don't need it any more. This lens is light and the combined IS of body and lens is incredible.
I had a play with it on Saturday. Used natively there was no need to use anti-shock but putting on the 1.4x converter made that a necessity.
I'll put some samples up later. Keep saving, it's a brilliant lens, the resolving power is immense.

Some samples now:

Young squirrel, just popped up! by mack100, on Flickr

All hand held. I walked around the park for 5 hours carrying this lens without fatigue, a great thing for an old man like me:D
The duck shot was at 1/40 second, cropped.

I'm well happy with my GX80, so far I only have the 12-32 kit lens, but its a very good little little lens.

Love the 4K video to photo mode, and the ease of switching between that and post focus.

I'm also more inclined to use it now as carrying my Nikon D3200 around was annoying, and it struggled in low light unlike the GX80 which performs amazingly.

a few photos from it.

Post focus is great fun.

From what I've seen if you're remotely serious about video the inbuilt mic is worthless and you're best off getting something like a Zoom H1 (w/appropriate mic if necessary) and syncing the audio in post, which is a bit of extra work but alas, no external mic connection on the GX80.

yeah thanks - was thinking of a H2N or H4N possibly

just a bit of faff of post processing

I did consider a G7 or GX8 - but shutter shock has been a real annoyance on my G6

that plus no AA filter, the fantastic stabilisation, and the price - 499 with lens + 50 cashback

for what may be say 80-90% of a GH5 in a cheaper body - seemed a no brainer to me :)

I might buy GH5 in the New Year - next year - if out

Just noticed Amazon are doing the Olympus 45mm for £180 with a free hood - seems a decent offer, any reason not to pull the trigger?

I've got the 25mm F1.4 and a 14-140mm so should complement them nicely.
