The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

I think my next lens will be a 42.5 OIS :)

I was contemplating that or the Oly 45mm for my GX8. The 42.5 was £100 more (for a grey import at that) but stabilised and a much shorter minimum focal distance. I opted for the Oly purely on cost, it being available with a free lens hood from Amazon and having tried the Oly today though I'm really impressed so I wouldn't write it off even on a Panasonic body, can't wait to use it again tomorrow!

So I had a play around with the Olympus remote shutter function the other night and glad to say it does the job!

But it relies on phone battery power and the camera battery isn't great. I need to see if I can run the camera off the mains...if so a quick double extension lead could result in an all night shot :D

It is pretty nifty controlling from your phone or ipad. I have used it a lot.

Guys im after abit of advice. I have a Pan G7 with 14-42mm kit lens which I am using just for video.

I would like a faster lens but dont really wanna drop much money just yet so considering a FD lens and speed booster. Im after better low light and shallower dof.

Im not 100% sure how the whole crop thing works but im am after a fast lens that works out low enough focal length to still be able to have the camera not too far away from the subject.

Was considering the following.

Focal Reducer Speed Booster Canon FD Lens to Micro Four Thirds

Canon 50mm FD f1.4

Or would something like a Panasonic 25mm F/1.7 be a better choice for about the same price?

I suspect since he says hes focusing manually, that sharpness is more important than faster AF speed to him? ;)

Im fine using manual as subject does not move but if the panny is as good as the canon set up it makes sense to go with something that gives option for auto focus.

He specifically states if performance is similar he'd get a lens with AF (and it's cheaper) ;)

All that I have read seems to point that the Olympus was better out of the two? Im on a G7 not GX7 (not sure that makes any different).

Price wise I found the Olympus used but as new for pretty much the same price as a new panny.

Am I making a mistake?
