The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

I see there is a Laowa 7.5mm f/2 none fisheye out for the olympus/panasonic.

I was hoping Olympus would have released the 300-500mm f/2.8-4.0 and 200-300mm f/2.8-4.0 PRO lenses at the show but I doubt I could have afforded one anyway.

The 600-1000mm effective lens with max aperture of f4 is sure to cost the price of a small car.

I really want to buy a filter system and some ND filters for my 7-14mm. Where I live (which is right by the coast in Lisbon) every single day on the way to work I'm staring at the window wanting to do sunrise long exposure shots.

Time for some googling I think

I'll be very interested to see the reviews for those new PanaLeica lenses. The G80 is on my Christmas list already as it's a no brainer for a very happy G7 owner.

What's that up you said Panasonic-San? You've added splash/dust protection, the magnetic "shock-free" shutter, 5-axis Dual IS and the enhanced sensor from the GX80/85 to my favourite camera?

Shut up and take my money!

As Dpreview says on the new EM1 mark 2

The E-M1 II has a completely new AF system- 18fps AF-C continuous shooting, in Raw. Up to 60fps in AF-S. Also in Raw. Erm... wow?

Bigger grip, bigger battery, new AF system, dual SD (UHS II), new 20MP live MOS sensor, quad core processor... the E-M1 II looks nice

New 'pro capture' mode can capture 14 Raw frames *before* you press the shutter to take a picture. Like a smartphone. Continuous buffer.

20MP sensor, 121 cross type phase detection AF points, ISO 64 and same price as the current mark 1. Where can I buy one?? WANT

Couple questions.
I have the Olympus E-PL7 and mainly shoot static subjects such as flowers, cars etc.
I'm suffering from GAS and keep looking at the E-M5 mkII but is there really anything extra I would gain for my usage?
Even the highres mode might not be helpful as I rarely use a tripod if I am outside.

Also, has anyone here got any of the Voightlander lenses?
Are they worth the money?
I have the Olympus 12-40mm F2.8 but regularly use it at max zoom, so was looking for a prime of around the same 'length'.
This is the only one that also has a short focussing distance.

e-m5ii would add weather sealing, fully moving screen, EVF and 5-axis IBIS vs 3axis. If you don't like using a tripod, then the improved IBIS would be the big selling point. At 150mm, I can easily get sharp handheld shots at just 1/50s with mine, and at 12mm, 1/10 is fine.

Good point re the IBIS.
I've been having a look round and found some used E-M5 II about £200 off list which seems a good price. Listed as virtually unused.
Did consider the E-M10 II but then realised I can get the portrait grip for the M5 which would be a nice option for me.
Fold out screen is good/bad for me. Less practical in some ways than just a flip up. I wish the EM models had a flip up EVF. i bought the add on EVF for my E-PL7 which flips to vertical which is great for low angles and no glare such as you get with the LCD screen.

Also read some reviews re the Voigtlander and they are good but seem to have some odd optical effects in some scenarios which puts me off, especially nearly/fully open.

Looks like I'll continue with the 12-40 for now. Just seemed a good idea to go prime given how often I use it at the 40mm end.

I love the fully articulating screen - I miss it when I use my rx100 m2. It's great if you've got your camera in portrait and angled on a tripod, and it's good to be able to turn it around when putting the camera away, knowing the screen won't get scratched.

The 45mm f1.8 is an amazing lense fo cheap money but focus in distance is 30cm vs 20cm on the lenses you have. The 75mm is the sharpest prime you can get for the Olympus but focus img distance is about three foot!

If you want better than you have and as good or better focus img distance you have to look at the Panasonic 45mm f2.8 macro or the superior Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro.

Good choice of camera, same as mine and I have the vertical grip too (worth it just for the extra battery. Make sure you have the latest firmware on the camera as last update gave it focus bracketing.

The Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 would give you what you're looking for - focal length, faster aperture, close minimal focal distance - 30cm (not quite as close as the 12-40 but much better than the Olympus 45mm which is 50cm).
