The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

I think it's time I added a wide angle lens; is the 7-14mm pro still the must have? my 12-40 has done very well on all my trips but a few shots i could have done with that extra bit of room.
Its "only" worth it if you really want f/2.8

I have this lens and I absolutely love it. The quality of the images from it are oustanding. However you have @King4aDay who has the 9-18mm which is much cheaper and he produces fantastic shots.

Of course you might just "want" it in which case I advise you to proceed, post haste! :D

Quick phone snap, but picked this up over the weekend; Lumix G9. Really pleased with it so far.
Much more comfortable to hold / better balance in my hand than the em-5ii, brilliant EVF and intuitive layout. Within a few minutes I'd customised the buttons to suit without even opening the manual. The Focus time is ridiculously quick and there are some handy options for peaking / magnification / pinpoint the subject.
Annoyingly I wasn't setup for it but a red kite flew straight over my head and dived for prey just as I was changing lens at a National Trust place this Sunday (Lyveden) would have been a perfect time to test the focus tracking.

Got a G9 just over a week ago as Panasonic were doing double cashback (£300 back on body only).

Like it so far, it's replacing a G80. Need to sit down and go through all the settings to get it how I like it. Does seem to be a noticeable improvement in image quality over the G80 (which was already very good), but if there wasn't a cashback offer I don't think it would be worth it. If I sell the G80 and the kit lens, it makes the upgrade pretty "cheap" as I have a 12-35 F2.8.

Anyone got an Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 they want to loan me for a week in July? :p

I've almost bought one of these several times recently. The were sub £600 as a grey import a few weeks back. I could have bought it and sold it as second hand and not lost out.

Only thing making me hesitate is I'm tempted to get a native Panasonic lens for DFD and dual IBIS. The price of the PL 50-200 f2.8-4 seems to be dropping slowly so might go for that.

I have nearly bought one multiple times as well.

But now I am finally going on a photography trip (Switzerland) which will warrant having the decent telephoto for landscape work so its time to bite the bullet. (or borrow :p)

That really is a nice price but the wife would end me.

No wife here to put a stop to my spending, but I still can't afford it! :( Well, could put it on the card and it'll be interest free for 18 months, but in any case as lovely as it is, it's not a lens I would see much use out of IMO. The 50-200mm OTOH... I loved the old Olympus 50-200mm on my E3.

That's my thinking too, the zoom is just so much more usable. The 200mm is really a wildlife lens and I only need so many pictures of Robins and Sparrows!

Hi all, I sold my 5D Mk3 and some L lenses a few years ago as they barely got used. I've got to the stage where I'm wanting another camera for holidays etc as my iPhone just doesn't really cut it. I don't want another full frame or crop body, I fancy something smaller. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II Compact System Camera - 14-42 EZ Lens + 40-150 mm R, Black can be had on Amazon for £479, is this a good buy now? I understand I'll probably need a grip for it but other than that for something out of the box I think it's small and light plus will do much better than a smartphone. Thoughts?

That's a good deal on the body plus both lenses. I'd highly recommend trying the camera first before parting with cash. Of course if you try it out in a store buy something from them at least.

I have a Panasonic GX80 and often carry that with the 12-32mm kit lens that comes with it. It's a very good compact setup plus the GX80 does 4k video if you are into that.

As for smartphones, you'd have to get close to top of the line to even try and compare image quality. The cost would far surpass what you are looking to spend.
