I'm of the opinion that we (humans) need to unite more. Countries are stupid.
In a word, and you know what word it's going to be, Thatcher.
There is still an overwhelming feeling in Scotland, passed down from parents and grandparents, that, especially in the Thatcher era, Scotland has been mistreated by conservative governments. The destruction of industry, mining and manufacturing had a pretty devastating effect on communities both here and in areas of Wales and Northern England where the conservatives still struggle.
Yep...because economic unity in the EU has really proven itself to be a factastic idea, hasn't it?
It tends to be the knuckle draggers who chant sectarian abuse at football matches that seize upon it.
This is way beyond my level of knowledge, but isn't that just economic unity between separate countries, each doing their own thing for their own gain?
In my mind we should be aiming for a Star Trek like Earth.
I'm sorry but that is just complete nonsense and you have only highlighted your lack of understanding of Scotland. The "knuckle draggers" who chant sectarian abuse at football matches tend to either be out and out Unionists (ie Rangers fans) or from the most safe Labour seats in the entire country of Scotland (both Rangers and Celtic fans).
To try and associate the Scottish Nationalist movement with these people is both stupid and insulting.

Whatever pal, speak to the folk in Paisley etc about independence and what you get is "aye, independence all the way. Screw the English". There is no thought behind it, just ignorance and stupidity and IN MY EXPERIENCE the majority of independence supporters fall into the same category. Again, sure there are exceptions. Folk with their own political views and reasons for supporting independence but I'd say they are the minority.
our home grown politicians refusal to give the population a say on the matter,
Nooo, we should extend our kingdom.
Make Ireland re-join then go after Iceland.
We shall rule ALL the islands of the world.
Muahahahaha
The union is vitally important for trade and stability. I for one would not like to see independence.
I wouldn't mind seeing a poll in here. Something along the lines of:
I'm Scottish and I want independence.
I'm Scottish and I don't want independence.
I'm English and I want rid of Scotland.
I'm English and things should stay the same.
I'm from elsewhere and couldn't care less.
Expect to see 99.99999% of people on here saying 'English and want rid of Scotland' judging by how these threads normally go.
