The Unofficial Fallout 3 Thread

Been looking forward to this since it was announced. I absolutely loved Oblivion, and I loved the Fallout series so the 2 combined should make for an exceptional game. Reviews are out already (9.6 on IGN, 10/10 on Eurogamer) and it sounds awesome. I'll certainly be spending a fair bit of time playing it this weekend.

Fallout 3 got a 9.0 from Gamespot on both the PC and Xbox 360, PS3 version got an 8.5 for the following reasons:

"It's a shame, in light of these impressive design elements, that the PlayStation 3 version is shockingly inferior to the others from a technical perspective. Although the Xbox 360 and PC versions display the occasional visual oddity and bland texture, these nitpicks are easy to overlook. Sadly, the jagged edges, washed-out lighting, and slightly diminished draw distance of the PS3 release aren't so easy to dismiss. We also experienced a number of visual bugs on the PS3. Character faces disappeared several times, leaving only eyeballs and hair; limbs on robots went missing; some character models had an odd outline around them as if they were cel-shaded; and the day-to-night transition may cause odd streaks on the screen as you move the camera around. This version doesn't even offer TROPHIES, whereas the Xbox 360 and PC versions offer Xbox Live/Windows Live achievements."

is anyone else's order still being picked and packed from a certain online game retailer or has anyone had theirs dispatched?

Surely if they were basing it on visuals, then the pc one should get 9.5, how can they deduct 1/20th of the score based on graphics? Its either a good game or its not.

Yeah, but then you can't very well give it the same score if it's significantly worse.

And you should surely realise that it's never a case of whether it's a good game or not, they rate all aspects of the game don't they: graphics being one of them.

Not sure what to make of this game i was going to buy for the PS3 but think i will go for the PC version due to the PS3 version being a little slated.

Still not sure what it's all about im just going along with the hype :D

very cheap on the PC aswell.

Fallout retrospective in case anyone is interested in watching, good watch as i never played the previous chapters.
Just watched that, awesome recap and summary of the franchise. Did you notice that the narrator said Interplay still owns the rights to multi-player Fallout and are planning an MMO? He said something along those lines.

Been playing it on and off all day, great fun! I do like the VATS system, however I need to level up my dude a bit more to get better shots.
Trying to decided if I prefer it to Fable 2 (I know they are completely different RPG's)...
Hmmm.... kinda realistic post apocalyptic universe or fantasy very-english magic universe.

Like others I will wait until few games are out and then pick this up cheap. Saw it at the expo yesterday and agree the PS3 version was inferior but in all fairness I really can't see how the the gfx are great on any version? And don't get me started on the character models as their shocking for a next gen game :-/

I'm sure the story & gameplay are great though.

yep the player models are shocking, the backgrounds are quite impressive. It's not really my bag to be honest, never enjoyed oblivion. In fact fable 2 is the only rpg I have enjoyed in recent years

I got the game this morning on PC, and i cant see what the problem is with the models (playing on very high Detail) unless the PC version is far better looking than the console one? Not played for too long so ill have a better look when i get home tonight.
