The unofficial Guild Wars 2 hype thread (with dynamic worlds)

Quite impressed with the video really.

Combat is wonderfully visually. The environment looks nice.
You could tell the some AI didn't seem to be there or something else was up, I assume that was just because it was a demo.
The UI looks pretty smart and clean.

But yeah nice heads up, look forward to more. :D

Dev hacks were on so the players were invisible to the AI. :)

But looks wise, it's gorgeous, and I love how the attacks actually look like their descriptions now when you activate them!

Not a fan of the first Guild Wars then :p

I'm bias about it but I thought it looks good, Char run differently from what I would think though.

Has it been said if the world will play like the first GW? i.e. Only see people in towns and outposts? I hope so, i cant stand all the loonys in mmo's.

Oh and lol, to the above two posts. You can try to convince yourselves it wont be any good, but you will fail. But nice try!

Damn with the fan boys in this thread.

It will not be good, for me. In fact i've emailed my ISP to ask if i could have my bandwidth back i used to download the video.

For someone else they might like it, without being rude i don't care.

Why do you say that? What in that vid do you not like exactly?

Combat, animation, the glowing effect around targets, the look and art style (hate animie), no voice acting at all and more.

The place there showing off in the video reminds me of the cellar in Tortage (in age of conan) where the art style and the whole area just looks horrible and doesn't feel right.

Oh and fast travel, seriously.

Its always funny when a hater tries to call people fanboys... Only made more pathetic by saying you want your bandwidth back.

Unfortunately my internet says no so i can't see much of the video but it seems so far removed from GW...

Art style doesn't look anime at all... looks just like GW but with better models, animation and textures :|

GW never had voice acting either, only a few samples, for an MMO that is to be expected, you can't voice every merchant and quest! Plus its still in beta, they might not have got round to recording the dialogue at all yet.

GW has always had fast travel... what's wrong with that?

The first area they are showing is a big Charr base, it takes place a good 100 or so years after GW, and technology has moved on, hence the guns and steel structures etc. Looked fine to me...

Those little small people with them elf ears, huge ass weapons and stupid looking armour. You can not deny the game has massive Eastern Culture references and that i just can not stand.

I much prefer the mature Western RPGS.

Every single NPC is SWTOR is fully voiced. If Bioware can do it, everyone else can.

Then whats the point of having a map and things in between questing areas?

If you have a fast travel system you are pretty much negating the need for a world. You may as well just have a bunch of instances connected together and fast travel between them.

I personally like to explore the game i'm playing, travel from town to town and experience the changes in the environment, the change in npc culture and other dynamic features that are connected to an open world.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't like that wolf character, I prefer human-like characters. The game looks lovely for an mmo and If the story is great and the world immersive then it could be a winner. I'll probably not have the time to play it though. Also hype for an mmo is normally useless as it never lives up to the hype :p

What is the world like? I'm really looking for a fully open world like WoW/Vanguard/LOTRO/Rift e.t.c. without constant loading screens, could this be what i'm looking for or shall I just keep on waiting for Rift?

Call me crazy, but maybe they realised that 99.9% of people wouldn't listen to an NPC giving a voice over of a quest? I certainly have no intention of listening to them talk about it when i can read it faster.

What are you whining about? Seriously? Its quite simple, if you don't like the fast travel system, don't use it. Better yet go play some Bethesda games since you can use mods to turn it off completely. You clearly have never played GW before or you might have a clue as to the depth of these zones. I'd rather not have to put out a message asking the alliance if they wanted to join for a mission and have 5 people report back that they're halfway across the world and they'll be there in 4 hours because they have to fight there way through 30 explorable zones (which to my knowledge have a lot more depth to them than anything you'll find in WoW) when they could be there in 30 seconds.

If you want to explore the world do so, nothings stopping you, but you won't stick to that opinion for long.

Indeed, well said.

There's even the 'Cartographer' titles in GW that reward you for fully exploring every corner of the map...

So it's not like you have to fast travel everywhere.

By the sounds of it you have never even played GW.

The game is in no way 'anime' styled, don't know where you get that idea.

Tales of Vesperia, now that's an anime styled RPG.

GW nothing like. As for the weapons, pretty much the biggest sword in the game is the Fell Blade or the Colossal Scimitar, both of which aren't that big when compared to the warrior model size.

(Fell Blade)

On the whole the game has a much more 'real' look than anything like WoW etc.

(PS - It's not a 'wolf character' its a Charr, who I am so being)
