The unofficial Guild Wars 2 hype thread (with dynamic worlds)

I found the original GW somewhat confusing. I was never entirely sure where i should be going or what i should be doing there. I agree with HangTime in that, at least at first, you need some kind of hand holding. I mean, it's hardly on the Eve: Online graph of learning curves but still a degree of mysticism when it came to actually completing tasks didnt help.

The instanced world.. well, i hate complaining about things that seem so abitrary but attract criticism from so many.. but I just found it blocky and restrictive. In reality, it probably wasnt, but it didnt feel like you could just flow from one place to the other. I think if you want an immersive world you really need a fluid transition without instancing.

Still, the Screenshots look gorgeous. I hope this turns out to be a new milestone for Murmorpergers.

Wasnt a fan of the first one, but this looks amazing! Lets hope it turns out as good when it's released....Between this and The Old Republic, I'm not sure what I'm getting more hyped for

Only trouble with that video is that its Devs...standing on a video, MEGAhyping up their MMO to ridiculous levels, making it sound like its the single greatest, most revolutionary, most incredible looking, most in depth, most playable, least grindy MMO game ever conceived. Admittedly they are paid to do that, but its the same spiel that we see from devs in pre-release videos for virtually every single MMO, almost word for word in some instances.

After years and years of hearing devs say the same things over and over, you end up being thoroughly salt-pinching about anything that anyone who is even vaguely connected to the impending release of an MMO has to say on the MMO in question. :)
the thing is mate thites is a sequal not a new IP. guild wars is an established franchise mate. its saying mafia 2 will fail or fallout vegas. very SMALLL chance they will and same goes for gow2.

Irrelevant to be honest.

EQ2 was a sequel to EQ1, yet many consider EQ1 to be the better of the two.
AC2 was a sequel to AC1, yet AC2 flopped so bad it was rapidly cancelled.

Just because the first orpg succeeded that is no guarantee that the 2nd will. As such, I am absolutely 100% not going to get excited about it on the basis of the over the top PR rantings of someone with a vested interest in the game.

Butt, no mesmer has been shown :( Reallly a bummer.

The Mesmer hasn't been offically annouced as one of the playable professions yet, so there were no shots of Mesmers in the video. That being said, the book (Ghosts of Ascalon), mentions Mesmers, and there are a number of pictures of Mesmers so I'm guessing they will be announced at some point.

I actually liked the instances, no griefing from ret**ds, ***kwits and lamers. No boss camping from another player when you're trying to farm them.

It has been said that for the most part GW2 will be a persistant world, but the storyline missions, and dungeons will be instances.

NNNNoooooooooooo!!! Jumping?
Ugh!

I remember people flat out refusing to play Guild Wars because you couldn't jump in it...
You had to laugh. Jumping offers nothing to the experience, unless you are griefing, then it can help a lot...

O.o

jumping just adds realism, like the swimming etc.

anyway, should get a new class today (they said they would before games con which is tomorrow)

anyway, new pretty good interview with little sneaky tidbits in :D

dont get me wrong. not all sequals is a 100% success but the devs have to be really blow it to create a poor game. as long as they make a game equally as good as GW1 where in for a win mate.

look at starcraft 2. did that suck?

Did for me as I don't like starcraft :D

Oh I know what you're saying, I'm just pointing out that other mmo sequels have been worse and there are no guarantees til we try it. Certainly I am not going to be suckered in by a guy who is paid to say a game is great, saying a game is great. I have long since outgrown dev hype.

i get you pal but be honest, would you be hyped more from a sequal to a awsome game or a new IP?

i would certainly be more hyped for a sequal of one my favourite games
