Have some work done on a huge tree in the garden. Got a quote through last week for 1300.
Thought it seemed expensive. But it's quite a specialised job when TPOs are hanging around. But still more than I expected.

Better get a second quote at least

Under 400.

A bit less work, but second guy clearly knew his stuff. I was surprised I have to say. Couldn't believe the price difference.

I had mentally allocated 800 for this.

Just shows the importance of getting multiple quotes. Still shocked. Think the first one might have been taking the pee though. I'd say second quote 1/2 to 2/3 work for 1/3 of the price.

Makes me wonder how many people don't bother getting a second quote.

I've never manged to make multiquote work.

Click multi on each one then click reply!

This doesn't seem to work now! :D

"insert quotes

Always get at least 2 or 3 quotes to make sure you aren't getting bent over.

I always tend to get 3-4 quotes or sometimes 5, except for car garage as I trust them
I don't see much value to this, it's just a cluttered mess

Post a photo of the tree and what you want done with it and I can tell you pretty accurately what it would cost round here for fully insured professional to do it.

You got two quotes for two different jobs and they were different? Well colour me shocked!

Why is it ?.

Example..5 years ago I was looking for a solicitor to give me a quote for coveyency, I got 4-5 quotes together from different places and and made a decision which was based on price and review, couple were quite high in prices , one in middle and two lower costing ones , I chose the lower costing one, who provided an excellent service. Should I have gone to the one that cost higher, I would have paid more , and may have had the same level of service as the one I chose or may have been worse

Also, I sometimes don't trust people when people say it will cost xyz to do abc, so I check with maybe two other places to see if they come out the same,

Always check reviews though

I'm half expecting a "travellers turned up in their trannies to cut down my tree" post to come soon.

Edit: Oops, didn't realise that word which I used to describe travellers was not to be used here. :o

Take it the second quote came with a copy of the waste carriers licence and details of where the waste will be disposed of and is insured..As did the first quote?

I will get a pic

The red vertical. They are going to take 2m off
The red arrow they are planning on taking completely out.

The other more expensive one were going to do a crown reduction all round. But second quote said this would be bad as it will just regrow this quickly

These are TPO trees and both quotes were from fully licensed organisations.

we always get 3 quotes for major work unless we specifically want someone. only backfired on me once and that was due to pandemic /brexit shortages which shot us in the foot. as a general rule tho its a no brainer.
(my dad was a builder so fairly clued in on such things)

Would I be right in saying a third of the tree is over a neighbours garden and will any work be done that would be on that side?

I'm swinging more towards the lower quote after seeing the above.
