The value of getting multiple quotes.

Very easy if you own the land behind the trees, just pull them with a decent rope and a tractor whilst someone chain saws the trunk, then tidy up. If there's a fence it will need temporarily removing. I would imagine £400 or so. A good 2 full days work for a decent chap. The oaks, (which look more like birches to me) would need climbing and bringing down with some consideration for the buildings, but whilst not in leaf they look straightforward. Getting `em down is fairly easy, tidying up is the PITA.

Surely not £400 for the whole job? The pines will need someone going up and doing some trimming as there are a few widowmakers up there, I can hear them creaking as the tree moves in the wind.

I expect I will go for the 375 quote. Can't see it being much less. It still seems a lot for the work to be honest but isn't that how everything is going now?

Trying to get one more quote but doubt it will be much different

I always find it ends up a lot more work than it looks with trees ,I treated myself to a Stihl cutter and some long life pre mix (somewhere in image purchased thread) earlier this year but luckily don't have any mega trees to deal with

Yes, that's not a hard job if the pines can just be dropped whole then cut up. During the last big wind we had 3 REALLY big oaks come down across an unadopted road to three neighbouring houses. The local tree men were all pulled out, but a grand had a team of four come within the hour and cut them up, crane the trunks into one of our fields and leave the branches neatly cut up and stacked for the neighbours to use for their wood burners.

It had to be done immediately as no emergency services could get through should something untoward occur. The insurance paid. It was a big, heavy and awkward job, so I think they earned their £1000 plus VAT in the circumstances. It would have taken me a week and even then would have struggled getting the trunks to a handleable size. Your job is child's play in comparison.
