***The Vapers Lounge*** 3.0

Well done mate keep it going.I was the same 8 years ago still vaping.Get the Smoke Free app on your phone and put your details in.
I'm currently at a saving of £40,000 since i stopped  less the cost of vapes and juice of course.
Thank you. Appreciate the support.
Should be around 4k a year better off.
Of course, as a smoker you know the cost, and you also know how much you "could" save.
But that's not the same as actually having the money left over at the end of the week.
My other bad habit is LEGO. That would be easier to give up, and arguably, save me even more :D

Disposable Vapes are horrible for the environment.

But we'll done on chucking the fags..
Oh, I am well aware and totally agree. I have boxed my empties up and returned them for disposal. Many don`t bother.
My point being, without the instant availability of a disposable, I would probably still be smoking today.
Already looking at a kit etc.
Ideally, I would not Vape either, but I genuinely think the actual action of Vaping has helped me enormously, compared to patches etc.
Its not just the Nicotine in my opinion.

After 30+ years i took the plunge yesterday and tried my first vape. I was highly sceptical, even resistant to the idea of vaping, as for some reason i got it into my mind that it was all a bit hipstery (no offence) what with all the flavours, what i thought was obsessing over different parts, bits & bobs, mixes, clouds, etc, etc. I guess that does exist to some extent in some places but I've not come across it so I'm glad that my preconceptions have been proved wrong, that i was wrong.

I dipped my toe in the water with a JUUL2 Device and while it's certainly convinced me that vaping is a viable alternative I'm finding the pods are uneconomical as they run out too quickly. So I'm hoping you fine folk with more experience can save me some time, money, and more importantly a loss of sanity with arguments over minute differences that me, as a noob, probably aren't going notice or care about. :)

I've been looking at other devices but even though I've got a better idea of what all the things do, that because I'm a MTL (afaik) i want a device with a high resistance coil and a liquid with a 50/50 mix, other than that I'm a bit lost so could really do with some suggestions. to give some background half of those 30+ years was spent smoking normal cigs and the other half spent smoking king size roll-ups without filters, around 20g of rolling tobacco a week, so i guess that makes me a heavy smoker and probably explains why a JUUL2 pod barely lasts a day.

So I'm now looking at getting something that's a bit more economical and would welcome suggestions. I don't like great big clouds of vapour, I'm not particularly into different flavours other than tobacco (defiantly not sweet flavours), i don't really care about the shape, how rugged it is, battery life, connecting to an app or most other quality of life things. I think all I'm after is a device with a tank that i can fill myself (i think that's the cheapest option, yes?) and replacement coils that aren't going to cost a fortune in the long run.

Sorry for the long post and congrats if you made it this far. :)
If it helps I've been looking at the Innokin Adept Zlide but other than that I'm a bit lost.

Congrats on making the step.

For your tank question, i'm currently running an aspire nautilis after having gone full circle. Started with the nautilis then went full cloud chucking rabbit hole before coming back to the low power long battery life just chuck a new coil in occasionally convenience.

As for a battery setup you can kinda do whatever you want, i still stick to twin battery mods for longevity (read: 2-3 days between battery swaps) but that doesnt mean you cant run smaller if you feel so inclined

Oxva Xlim Pro gets my vote, cheap coils that last a while and you can top it by using nic salts.
I'm guessing from having looked at the product page that some pods allow you to refill the pod, so like you can carry around 2-3 pod and refill them when you get home type of thing?

Because i was looking at devices with tanks due to the larger capacity and not having to worry too much about portability/pocket-ability.

Battery isn't really an issue as 95% of the time I'm sat in front of a PC so having charging within reaching distance.

The Nautilus seems alright, although i noticed it's got a fire button so does it not do inhale to activate or does it allow you to choose?

Yeah, still handy for when you do go out not having to worry about it.

tanks aren't that big on capacity these days, there was a law change a few years back restricting their size, however a lot of tanks these days have some form of top-fill method which means topping them off is pretty quick and easy which offsets the low capacity.

The Nautilus seems alright, although i noticed it's got a fire button so does it not do inhale to activate or does it allow you to choose?

Sorry, should have clarified.

The nautilis is just a tank, it has no electronics of its own but will screw into a battery box that provides power, you're likely looking at a combo deal that comes with everything you need.

the plus side is being so modular you can, for example, replace the battery box itself without having to change the tank or your actual batteries (if your using a conventional box that takes removable cells).

downside is ofc using the fire button, but you get used to that pretty quick.

My favourite MTL setup right now is the voopoo MTL PNP tank with a 0.8 PNP TM2 coil and for the battery either a Voopoo V Suite or the Doric 60. All available on Amazon. Coils are well priced and last ages. The Doric 60 doesn't come with the MTL tank or coils so you have to buy them separately, the V Suite does but it's a smaller battery but I would recommend the V Suite as it's more compact and discreet and come with everything you need.

If that's a bit too much then the Vaperesso Xros 3 Mini is a great choice.

I've been vaping MTL for over a decade and tried many setups and the Voopoo is by far my favourite. No plastic waste either if that's something you're interested in.

Just buy a Caliburn pod system. Can find them on Amazon and the best simple system. After that it’s about choosing a flavour you like for refills.
Is that a use and refill the pod until the coil gives up type of thing? I think i got a bit misdirected at first as i may have wrongly assumed anything with a pod was a use the liquid throw it away deal but if better ones than the JUUL2 can be refilled I'll stop ignoring anything pod related.

In a way i think the JUUL2, while convincing me that a vape is viable, may have given me a bad impression with regards to costs. £3 per pod is defiantly cheaper than packet cigs but it's still not what I'd call cheap for what you get.

Most of the new pod-systems are both refillable and have replaceable coils. I use a Smok Nord 4 when I'm out and about. SMall enough to fit in my trouser pocket and doesn't cost the earth to run due to the aforementioned replaceable coils and refillable tanks.

Innokin zlide is what im using at the moment and its hard to beat. Ive been vaping for years, gone through the phase of using rebuildables and squonkers etc. nowadays I’ve settled on the Zlide with a 1.6 ohm coil 50/50 vg pg juice. It gives you a nice mouth to lung experience.

Yea the pods are refillable and used really with Salt Nic based mouth to lung smoking. The pods last ages for me personally.

Not a MTL Vaper myself but i highly recommend Grimm Greens vape channel. He vapes all sorts from MTL to DTL, complicated rigs to simple pods. He has a recent video about the Caliburn G3 or search his channel for "MTL". You will find all teh help you need there

Thought I'd do a short update, maybe it will be useful to someone.

I ended up buying a Caliburn G3, thanks to cu3ed for the suggestion, and £80 odd of various liquids. Main reason i choose that device is because, at this stage, i really don't know what difference wattages, resistances of coils, and what all the other little things you can do to tailor the 'experience' actually do. I wanted a device that 'just works' and the limited options on the G3 (2/3 different ohmage, refillable, pods, a puff counter, and auto detecting and configurable wattage) seemed like good entry/noob device. That and once i learned more about the TPD (Tobacco Products Directive) it made it rather pointless looking for a device with a bigger tank.

On the subject of the subject of the TPD, and without getting political, some parts of it really make it seem like it wasn't thought through. Limiting nicotine content to 20mg seems like a sensible thing to do but what was the thinking behind limiting the size of bottles with nicotine in them to 10ml and tank size to 2ml. Having to refill the tank is a bit of a faff but i can sort of understand the reasons for limiting tank size to 2ml, however the 10ml limit seems totally bizarre, instead of buying a single 250/500ml bottle i need to buy, and eventually throw away 25, 50, 100 separate bottles (i know short fills are a thing but afaik getting them to higher nicotine strengths, something someone making the switch may well want/need, is difficult) /rant :)

Really none of the TDP regulations were thought through, the fact that they called it the Tobacco Products Directive lets you know exactly their stance on vaping straight away. The ONLY similarity between smoking and vaping is both contain nicotine, smoking also contains countless harmless chemicals, most of which are also carcinogens. Here's an interesting article about Nicotine and its perceived dangers, maybe a little tongue in cheek at times, but it's well-rounded with plenty of external sourced to back it up.

Oh yes, why are bottles limited to 10ml? Because that is approximately 200 puffs, apparently the same you'd get from a pack of ciggies!

Well done.

Definitely invest in a decent mod though as it does make all the difference. It's not poncy to do that, but just common sense to spend your money wisely.

You can't go wrong with something like a Geekvape L200 classic (or L200). Yes, it looks big, and yes it will put out ridiculous clouds if you want it to, but a it's a proper vape that can last for 2 - 3 days on a single charge. If you don't want mega clouds, then just pop the wattage down (I have mine at 30w and below).

I see too many people try vaping, but wasting their money on some 10 quid trash that won't last 2 months and has coils so bad that the vape is either harsh or flavourless. Almost all go back to the fags within a month or so... if they ever gave them up at all. A good setup will stop that dead.

TBH the biggest issues I've found so far is that i got liquid with way higher nicotine content than i needed so that resulted in banging headaches until i got some base mix and started diluting it, having to fill the tank 2-4 times a day, some tobacco flavours being absolutely rank (like smoking black pepper), and getting a sinus infection that's taking its sweet time to clear up.

That last one caused some concern as at first i thought it was an allergic reaction so switched back to tobacco for a few days, then when became clear what it was i put it down to me probably doing something a bit dumb when doing my own mixing or just that it had always been there but was being kept at bay by subjecting it to all the chemicals in tobacco smoke.
