***The Vapers Lounge*** 3.0

Not seeing much point in dual coil tanks at the moment when single coil is just as good.

Same. I'm only interested in single coil tanks now. Less faff, the vape is as good, and needs less power so my batteries last longer. I'm usually building for 0.4 to 0.5 Ohms these days which I run at 50 to 70W depending on the juice.

Hi guys

I've been vaping about 3 years now and would like to upgrade my tank and mechanical mod for something more modern. At the moment I have a rose v2 atomiser and a 4nine mech mod which is ok but it's not working like it used to. I have replaced the battery but it just seems to have no power.

Someone recommended an Innokin isub apex. Are these any good? Reading this thread the crown 3 gets praised quite a bit. I would also need a new box mod for more power. Any recommendations would be great as I'm not up to date at all on vaping tech.

Cheers

So, as you use a Rose V2 I'm guessing you are a mouth-to-lung vaper. There's nothing wrong with the Rose so I'd keep it if I were you. The Innokin iSub range are sub-ohm direct-lung tanks so would be quite a change.
If I were you I'd swap the mech for a good, modern box-mod and stick with the Rose for now and maybe try some more tanks as you move forward.

For a box mod and if you want low-ish cost then you can't go wrong with a Smoant Charon (The TC version). Dual batteries, powerful, does TC, very well build, and cheap.
If you want to spend a bit more and really get in to TC curves etc then grab something with a DNA board in it. DNA75C if you don't think you'll go over 75W and want a cool colour screen, DNA250 if you want the most powerful thing you can get.

I generally have my coil at 1.4ohms in the rose so what kind of wattage would I set box mod at?

On the mech with a fully charged battery you will be at 12.6W but in reality the voltage will have sagged a bit so you're probably more like 11W. So, start from there and see how you get on.
If you want a good, cheap, direct-lung tank then grab a Serpent Mini SMM. Super easy to build on with fantastic flavour. I run mine at 0.5 Ohms and 45W for good clouds and excellent flavour.

What nic strength do you use? I'm guessing a 12mg in the Rose at that resistance. If you go to a full direct-lung tank and sub-ohm you'll want to drop that to 3mg or even 1.5mg.

If you want something that holds more juice then check out the Obs Engine Nano. It holds 5.3ml but is extremely easy to fill with a little flip-up fill hole. It's a single coil tank that's about the simplest to build on I've even used. I have two of them and while the flavour isn't as good as the Serpent, the additional juice capacity comes in useful. Plus it has the added bonus in that it WILL NOT leak no matter how you leave your mod.

What type and size wire do you use on the OBS Engine Nano? I'm a bit lost with all the different variations. At the moment I have some kanthal that I use for building coils on the Rose but I think it will be too thin. It's 20g I think. I'm thinking of just buying some pre made coils off of ebay.

SS316L 26/32 clapton wire from Fast Tech. I build with a 3mm ID, 6 wraps, for 0.5 Ohms.

I see Digiflavor have released the Siren 2. Been looking forward to this one for a long time. The original Siren is a fantastic MTL tank with a couple of shortcomings: 1 the 510 pin is very long and so it doesn't fit flush with most mods. 2 you couldn't cut the airflow down small enough without getting the ring on a sort of half hole. It looks like they've listened and the new one looks great.
I'll be bagging a couple of them as soon as I can.

Obs Engine Nano is a great little tank. It absolutely DOES NOT LEAK at all.
Flavour is not as good as the Serpent Mini SMM or the original Serpent Mini but the lack of leaks makes it a winner for me.

The Serpent SMM is a great little tank too but can weep a little from the top cap. No idea why but both of mine do it.

The new Aromamizer Plus (which I'm guessing you have) has one feature that makes it a lot better than the first version of the Plus. The grills over the airflow holes prevent the coils spitting out all over your mod. That issue stopped me using the original despite the excellent flavour. However, unless they fundamentally changed the design it will dump all it's juice out if left on its side. Still a nice tank though.

I see that Eleaf have released an iStick Pico that can take a 25mm tank. Ordered 2 of them because I love my old-faithful Picos and if I can use them with my Serpent SMMs then this is all I want.

The other day I was thinking about mods and looking at my collection and thinking about which devices I use the most. I realised that I use my Picos, and my VTC Minis the most. My DNA200, SX350J, and DNA75 devices mainly just sit on a shelf doing nothing.

iStick Pico 25 arrived. Much lighter than the original Pico and only a hair bigger. Much better screen on it than the original.
Pic with the tank that came with it. No idea what it's called but it vapes OK. I figured I'd use it for a bit.
