Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Always makes me wonder when people think radeon only sell to the gaming market and its where all there profits come from/

Well technically they do (or at least did until FE Vega appeared), radeon is the gaming brand and firepro was their "pro" level brand. They've done an nvidia with using the same naming convention for "prosumer" cards like the titan with geforce name still attached to it and vega FE with radeon name still attached to it.

Ye, they are using the centlar core of the product to shoot up the line, and like i said there is a whole other level of gpu's that amd have there fingers into beyond personal pc gaming. There server stuff is where the keching keching comes from but they sure as hell would like a bit of the gaming pc market, but compared to the high high end well, the gaming market is chump change.

But ye, slap a quadro down on a table and most people would think its geforce 9/10 series something or other but slap a sky 900 on a table and people would look at you funny.

On the plus side, the software looks good. A lot more control than what the Nvidia drivers gives you.

When it's working, that is ;)

Though progress has been slow, the efforts on the Linux open-source drivers are paying off, though there's still a significant way to go; I'd love to get the same level of control on the Linux side (GUI or not, I don't mind) as on Windows.

Yes we played for years and years without it, because we never had it. But seeing and feeling how good it Is, why would you now go without adaptive...thats just daft, it's a game changer
I wouldn't say it's a game changer. I've got 3 PCs connected to my Freesync monitor but only one has Freesync, I can't say I notice a huge difference. I can often notice the one running the screen at 60Hz compared to the 144Hz ones (unless I use the 60Hz for a while and then I get used to it until I go back to 144Hz). But once your game is bouncing off the 144Hz/fps cap I can't tell much difference between Freesync on and off.

I use gsync to be able to increase settings to where the game will run anything down to 90ish hz... before i would have to be turning stuff down to get higher stable frame rates so the amount i can ramp things up and it all stay smooth is a pretty big difference to me. I couldnt go back to non-sync.

Thats like saying the only cards left in nvidias hands is dx11 and gameworks, neither is correct.

What I meant was to salvage Vega AMD need to fall back on DX12 and Vulkan being better than the 1000 series. (It does support more features of DX12 than the 1000 series does for example) They lost on price, power use, heat, noise, FS2 is a mess too compared to Gsync.

Vega is getting bashed left right and centre by every reviewer of note. Nothing positive to say really.

Then you've got the shenanigans regrading pricing and subsidised launch price.

All in all good marketing for Nvidia thus far.

Well when arnt people brutal to amd............., Nvidia are teflon coated when it comes to reviewers.

Fact remains though that vega with crappy drivers and half its features not turned on and are there even games right now that run fp16 that its going toe to toe with a 1080. When the 400 series came out even the thought of radeon going toe to toe with any nvidia top end card was laughable, they were the budget mid range king. There cpus were none existant. Amd have the console market, the cpu market coming back, apple is using amd and intel got slapped so hard that amd are now even available in pre built systems.

So ye 5 years ago would you imagine amd would be here performance wise.

Yup i would when the drivers are as trashy as they are. Although on reddit they say some there are vega systems too so who knows, touch of salt with that. But ye know what else, not every pc in gamescom is intel, and im not talking about the amd stand, a lot of the pcs at gamescon are ryzen or threadripper.

All the people who just bought a 1080 and 1070 would throw a fit :p
People buy current gen GPUs the day before the release of the new gen, then moan like hell :p

People buy <anything> today then moan like hell when it's cheaper tomorrow/ next week/ next month.

People moan when things get cheaper and newer stuff comes out. You just have to ignore them :p Esp the daft ones who buy without checking if something better is literally coming out the next day.

If I had a penny for all the posts here saying, "I hope the xxx isn't much faster than what I have!" - well, I'd have a lot of pennies, and I think it's a daft thing to say at any time. We should all celebrate newer and better stuff coming out. Sure it devalues what we have, but ****, that's life!

Only DX12 and Vulkan left really in AMD's deck of cards.
They've already played the "Overclockers Dream" card (inflict 12 credibility damage on self) and "Poor Volta" (Decrease customer good will by 150), so either they're lulling us into a false sense of security, or their hand just plain sucks :p

Or a More simpler Answer AMD want to showcase Ryzen/Thread Ripper in best possible light and that means using 1080Ti
Just like before Ryzen AMD used Intel CPU with AMD GPUs

Madness :p :D

Unless you happen to play Ubisoft games ;)
Working fine in my Ubisoft games, but i know FreeSync is disabled in The Division due to flickering that cannot be overcome. The Application causes an erratic flip rate, causing the monitor to jump between the min and max refresh rate that unfortunately results in display flicker.

For those who wants freesync in Division and are on polaris or older try driver 16.9.2 . Never had a game with non working freesync with that driver though your limited to fullscreen.
