***The Wine Thread***

So yeah, what time should I arrive? :D

Hope it goes well, sounds like you’ve planned everything really nicely!

Wine and curry is always a bit of a tricky pairing. Cremant is very good to cut through the oils.
Tbh we should be serving mainly beer and Alsatian whites due to their sweetness pairing best with a curry. A gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris would be the best but hey. We won’t be, but some of it. People like red so you know.

thanks to this thread I have bought some of the anniversario 62 and something san quirico both of which are outstanding italian reds. Any other similar italian primitivos 15-20 quid a bottle you would recommend?

Ooo this I can help with...

Here are some of the ones that I love, rate, have in my basement or would buy again:

https://www.vivino.com/vigneti-del-...a-zolla/w/1926947?year=2017&price_id=17448159 - this is the best VFM you'll get. I have about 9 left at the moment, can often get a case deal at for me, about 8.50EUR a bottle. Amazing for the money. Real deal to take to people's houses and they are super impressed but you don't break the bank! :D

https://www.vivino.com/talo-primitivo-di-manduria/w/2272631?year=2017&price_id=20210776 - again decent price but not as full bodied or heavy. It's a much lighter that all the above. Better for sessions though if you're opening a few.

https://www.vivino.com/chiaramonte-ele-primitivo-puglia/w/1477376?year=2017&price_id=20220029

That should get you started!

Edit: it's worth mentioning that the Nativ Eremico San Quirico is Aglianico grapes, not Primitivo. All the Nativ wines are worth a try. Have a look at Sardinian wines like Cannonau, and try Brunello di Montalcinos between £15 and £25 from Tuscany.

Agreed on all the Nativs. The blue is a lighter drop, but the gold is superb! I'm not sure I have any left, pretty sure I drank it all. Got some 2016/14 and maybe a couple of 12 reds though.

I'd steer away from the Brunellos... mainly because it's become a bit of a minefield on quality. You can pay some $$$ but not get the wine from it. For a great red in tuscany, I'd hit up some of the Super Tuscans. Great quality and value.
