The Witcher - Enhanced Edition

Well clearly I didn't look hard enough then did I

I am pleased its just around the corner though. I completed it a few months back because I couldn't wait, I won't be buying the the new version, the download will do me just fine.

You're being impatient: the servers were bound to get hammered. Take some valium, go to Nero, get an espresso and read some Dostoevsky so you can look all independent and Parisien. Then stop pretending, come back, moan on some internet forums and download an RPG game patch like the true geek you are.

:D

In case anyone's interested I just picked up the retail version of this. You get:

1 x DVD with Enhanced version of the game
1 x DVD with the extra game content and the editor
1 x DVD with movies about making of the game etc.
2 x Audio CDs with Soundtrack and 'music inspired by...'
Three printed books - Game Manual, Strategy Guide and a witcher novella by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Whats the title of the novella?

The novella (I say that because it's only fifty pages) is just called 'The Witcher'. Haven't read it yet so not sure about the storyline.

Just wondering - I read one of his books called "The Last Wish" which was a series of small stories, was wondering if the Novella was one of those.

If I remember rightly "The Witcher" was the 2nd story from that book (and is the most heavily linked to the real game with Princess Adda as the Striga) and apparently his most popular short story. A nice way to gain some potential new readers !!

Its good to see all the positive posts, I loved this game also and it's the first game I've played through to completion for a long time. I got really immersed in the atmosphere and storyline and I loved the fact that your decisions effect the storyline's direction to a degree. I don't know why people complain so much about the combat either, there's so much more to it than just point and click....

I'm starting it back up tonight, I have a few main aims this time. First I want to make sure I max my level before the end, which means completing ALL quests (I know I missed a quite few in Act 1 first time through as I was learning the game), I also want to take a different route at the key junctures to see how things pan out.

I noticed a few new dialogues so far, some of the out-of-place Geralt lines that stick out like a sore thumb are still there in a couple of places; I think Lambert at the start had a whole new section re-recorded though.

So far, I've seen next to no evidence of the reduced loading times up to the Outskirts, and all NPCs still look as unvaried as before.

Graphics-wise, all I've noticed is some nicer lighting in parts of Kaer Morhen. In-game cutscenes are still a little bit pixelated. Gonna have to play more of it I guess...

On the upside, the new improved inventory was a welcome change.

That sounds disappointing, loading times, NPC models and new dialogues was their main "selling point".

Finally got some time to patch the game and start playing only i'm not having much luck with it. I get an error message half way through patching claiming a corrupt cab file is to blame... gutted :(

I need to reinstall Witcher completely cos the its screwed my installation, i'm sure I'll find that the same will happen again.

Has anybody else had problems with The Witcher since the patch?

I can't even start the game and its not the EAX issue either. According to the Witcher community and forums there seems to be a few of us with the same issue, as soon as I launch the game it crashes. Works in all versions 1.0 - 1.3 but fails after 1.4 patch :(

Yeah I tried it, I'd been on the issue for 2 days now, tried everything suggested over on the Witcher forums (they've got some pretty cool unofficial support over there) but no luck.

Anyway I tried installing on a Vista box and applied the same patches I'd downloaded and used on my XP box and strangely it worked. So I just copied the whole Witcher folder over to XP and it worked.... weird really.

There were some problems in the patch process, when I tried patching on XP it took 2minutes before it said it was finished which was strange, on Vista it took 20-25 minutes which was a bit more realistic. It obviously wasn't patching properly, apparently there were quite a few people with the same problem. Anyway at least its solved now.

I've just bought the ee and after installing I get popping and crackling sounds, and I guuess the video intro is kinds stuttery aswell, any ideas?I've looked on the support forum and I cant see anything that relates to it, I've tried downloading the little work rounds for eax but that hasn't helped either :-(

I've heard of quite a few people having this problem, it was quite common on the support forum but then I spent nearly a whole day on there trawling through threads trying to solve my issues. Have you tried disabling EAX completely?

It's Ctrl+Click, I've only just discovered it myself. So much easier with Object Names turned on too :)

Wow. I played the entire game through without knowing this (auto-loot). I've just reached act 1 the secnd time through, this will be useful to know!! :D

The object names is very useful, especially for finding a particular monster. Holding alt is useful for this so that you can quickly switch it on or off. I don't like having it on all the time.

Any other useful tid-bits I might have missed?
