The Witcher-Official Thread

I buy games on instinct and not on reviews. The day I bought my first pc i walked into a pc game shop without any prior knowledge of games or even console games, and walked out with HL1. I think an experienced gamer can tell from the videos of this game that the developers know what they are doing. It's just little things like how it mentions that when you venture out of towns at night the bad creatures will be hunting in big packs, makes it feel like this game world is going to be very dangerous and immersive.
I watched videos of hellgate london months ago and straight off the bat I could see it would be dissapointing. But this will be ace. Trust me.

about:
The Witcher represents the pinnacle of storytelling in role-playing games, shattering the line between good and evil with a world where moral ambiguity reigns. In a beautiful, rich game universe created by artists first, technology second, the player becomes his own hero in an epic, action-packed narrative uniquely defined by his actions. Returning to the roots of the role-playing genre with a fresh and modern approach, The Witcher emphasizes story and character development in a vibrant world, while incorporating tactically-deep real-time combat like no game before it.

Immersed in a vivid but harsh fantasy world, the player assumes the role of a white-haired witcher named Geralt, a renowned monster-slayer-for-hire and master swordsman with superhuman strength and reflexes. While trying to regain his lost memory, Geralt unwillingly becomes involved in a world-shaking power struggle. Created to provide entertainment for both fans of role-playing games and those seeking fast-paced action, The Witcher brings together epic storytelling and dynamic, visually stunning, and tactically deep action.

I am like that as well. Also you can often see (I have been wrong before) when the developers, not the producers, are not doing the whole sales pitch thing in interviews, but rather talking with genuine passion and conviction. This is all speculation and hopefully come Thursday we will know.

Based upon the videos I am impressed by realness of the world in the way it scales to the player. The environments in say Oblivion and NW2 never looked real and believable. In NW2 you enter a tiny house for it only to appear to be a huge sprawling mansion on the inside.

You are right about Hellgate I also spotted months ago that it is a turd, same with Jericho.

I'm going to put my head on the chopping block and say it'll do amazing to score 80% average. I just have a gut feeling we're looking at a disaster.

Hope I'm wrong ;)

Heads Up!! As posted on the official website

"European games magazines and websites begin to publish first reviews of The Witcher, and so far reviewers reactions are nothing short of delightful. Two largest and very strict in their opinions French magazines – PC JEUX and Joystick gave The Witcher 90% and 9/10 as well as awards. The biggest norwegian game website X6 rated The Witcher even higher - for maximum 6/6. It is basically the beginning, and we believe it will be even better."

I have it pre ordered and can't wait!

I did not notice it was 2 pages, I just had a quick look and posted ok.. nothing wrong with that, no need to get all seriously on me..

It's rated adult because there is partial nudity you can sleep with the harlet's, and collect game card's of the women you have been with , i saw this on a y*u*tube clip along time ago so i dont know if the game still has the above implemented into the game, do a search on the tube it's were hes trying to get into the town and there are two guards at the main door, he talks to a harlet just before approching the gaurds, it's a clip narated by the devloper's

I have been checking other forums and not a bad word from those who are playing it, in fact they are raving about the game. My copy was dispatched today so by tomorrow evening I should be in gaming Nirvana. There is an active thread at Rage3D with a couple of posts of those playing.

I do find it rather annoying that there are so many long threads on pathetic hyped games that have yet to be released and The Witcher, which by all early accounts appears to be very good, only has a few short threads here and there. Man, there is no justice in this World.

Sorry if i sounded a bit sarcastic, welsh sense of humor , pre ordered the game and looking forward to it tbh, would have missed it if it wasn,t for this thread being started
