The Witcher-Official Thread

As far as I know it is based on the NWN engine and not the NWN2 engine as they are different. There is a post earlier on in this thread. If it was the same awful engine as NWN2 I would not have ordered The Witcher without a demo. From what has recently been posted from those playing the game it appears to run fairly well.
Ah cool :)

It still looks a lot like nwn2 :(

nwn>nwn2 tho, so maybe it will be good :)

Seamsless world , no... Going in the inn and it loads , going in one of the village huts and it loads tbh it loads too much sometimes in going to different areas.

Combat its a case of click at the right time , though im using the high threshold viewpoint.. You left click to attack then you wait till the sword icon appears again and hit again , if the sword icon turns into a flaming sword you can do flaming sword hits. You can hit without the sword icon ready but it says " TOO FAST ". Holding right mouse button and you block , it has different styles too Slow for heavyies / Fast for quick enemies and the Group attack for hitting more than one enemy in a group. Btw you can do hit combo's aswell as knock downs and spells.

Camera is modifyable but it does get in the way sometimes in tight areas.

Toolset yes however i haven't used it

Great, cheers for the info. I did maybe feel there would be loading times like you have said. It was the same for NWN. Loading next area and loading screen (albeit sometimes very quick) for going inside places)

However i did feel that the NWN look was quite.... how shall i put it.. "tiley" and all the backgrounds felt very similar. But from opinions it seems the Witcher's graphics are top-notch? Does it have varied settings? ie snowy mountain regions, swampy regions, undeground regions, deserty regions. Or is it all green green grass forever? :(

Regarding the combat.... "click at the right time" so does it seem more tactical? rather than hack n slash diablo style. I'm guessing you gain more advanced combos (jade empire-ish lol?) as you go up in level?

So its a fullblown rpg though? Not just an action rpg? How far have you got into it? Do you like it so far? Whats the best thing about it?
How does it feel to play? smooth? buggy?
Can other people join your party? What are the missions like : fedex? Or do they allow complex decision-making on your part?

In the videos ive seen, the weather is natural day-night cycle. Do you see this in game? Lots of different weather? (snow, rain, lightning, fog etc?) Do you get different enemies at night? Lots of variety of enemies?

Sorry for all these questions!

Quite interested in the toolset though!

p.s. last but not least have you slept with any women yet? :D

Thanks for the first impressions and links guys , my copy is getting ready to ship so i hope the posty gets it to me tomorrow :D.

Realy looking forward to playing this, i am realy gonna try hard and sleep with every woman in the game and get all the cards lol , just dont tell the wife ;)

It took a moment for me to realise that you meant "have you slept with any women yet IN THE GAME" :D

Hehe, wonder if it will anything like GTA:SA 'hot coffee'... i doubt it. I'm not bothered but nice to see a developer pushing the boundaries and aiming at an adult market.

LOL @ the first screeny you posted :D u might have to remove it though sweary hehe but nice to see that in the game.

hah this was cool , it was pouring down and people ran in doors or hid under roof's.. One of them said " its pouring i hate this weather , can't get any work done in this "

balls....been phoning round some stores to see if they would sell me it today and none of them want to be the first to break the street release date(26/10) (even though they have them in) shame :/

about 2 hours in now, and liking it very much. the first hour or so seems to be on quite a narrow rail as the game is teaching you the basics and building the premise, but after that it opens up a lot and you are free to do whatever you like.

the world seems very engaging and believable, with weather effect and day/night cycles and villagers slagging eachother off ("your mother sucks dwarf ****!"), beating eachother up and running to shelter from rain.

pretty much every character you run into has a uniqueness and something interesting to say. I actually found myself enjoying the dialogues as opposed to oblivion which was an utter bore.

even at this early stage i think the soundtrack is one of the best i've heard in an RPG, and the graphics are no letdown either and run almost flawlessly on max at 1600x1000 on a 8800gts 320, 3.2ghz c2d and 4gb ram. however it does stutter occasionally in the cut scenes so not sure how optimised it is.

and the best bit? that would be the fiesty redhead :D

Wow, just installed this game and its won me over already. The gameplay ive managed to grip instantly. The only comment i have to make is with my spec and everything on high, im still somehow getting as low as 20 FPS in the cut scenes. That said the gameplay itself im getting nothing lower than arround 50.

i want this game :( i think i may be unheathily addicted to buying new games.

bit of useless info. apparently pc retail stores get charged £1000 if they sell a game before the official release date. The till rolls are checked apparently... employee also gets the sack as well.
(info from 2 enthusiastic and helpful staff in a certain store)

Price of the collectors edition of this was at £49.99 though ouch!

lol, I had given up thinking I'd get my copy today and went out for a bit. Just got back and my missus said it turned up 5:30...apparently our delivery office has had quite a backlog (coz of the strikes I assume) and I'm now sitting here with a nice shiny collector's edition :D

well, Installed and fired up. Have yet to play the game, but have watched the intro movie which has to rate as one of the best intros ever imo.

It basically cronicles the opening story to 'The Last Wish' where Geralt lifts the curse on princess Adda.

Was top and just as I imagined, thought I thought Old Vizima would have been bigger.

Anyway - can't wait to get round to playing it later.
