The Witcher - worth playing?

you cna press shift and poitn the mouse where you want but its limited to right infront of you, so face where you want to look then rpess shift+direct mouse to object/npc
but i agree the controls re pretty strange

Just saved and having a break at the point where leo died and the guy with glasses in the lab killed him. That whole leveling system is horrible to use, the devs favoured gfx icons and fancy systems over simple systems with text like other games. So im not a fan of that talents crap stuff.

Isn't that Act I? You're right, you do have a short attention span :)

This game isn't for everyone - it's a mature RPG. Story > graphics/UI here, after all it's using the 5-yr old Aurora engine.

If they didnt have the awkard graphically styled ui mainly the talents screen, fixed the locked mouse in OST view or whatever its called (over shoulder) and removed the spell crap i think id like this game a lot better. Also shorter acts as that tutorial at start where u defend the castle is too long.

The jargon like names and places are doing my head in, ill never remember anything lol. I hope i dont have to do too many potions cos i dont like crafting. Ive made it to chapeter one, i killed a green dog but not all were dead and somehow it cut to i won lol. The boy floating speaking dribble about this and that (couldnt follow what he was on about).

Saved and quit as bit tired now.

I've only just started it but im not liking this fighting style thing, it feels a bit annoying having to change between the two every other enemy i encounter, its also awkward how you have to hold down the mouse button to hit and click again at the right time for a combo, i really just want to hack and slash as i find that more enjoyable.

Is there an option or a mod to improve it?

The game looks good but i think this will keep me from really enjoying it if i can't change it.

I'm really enjoying the Witcher so far, I toyed with buying it at full price when it came out but for some reason never did get it. Just got it in the Steam sale and I'm actually "getting into" the characters etc which I haven't been able to in games like Mass Effect for some reason.

Yep love the game aswell, currently on act3 and now into the silver talents, his execution moves are just now ridiculous really makes the game! Jumping on someone with his knees and then stabbing them in the back of the neck haha love it.

Iv heard some people online spent 80hours on it, (again just like those claimed you needed to spend 40hrs on me2 to complete it with everyone alive -yet I did it in 19hrs) what a joke i think I can have this done in 20 quite easily....great game.

I'm liking the game so far but I hate the combat. I'm having to constantly switch between a fast/slow/multi attack. Can you set it so he know which stance to attack in instead of fumbling around with Z X C changing stances while you;re fighting?

Where would the fun in that be? :P

Don't know how you got bored with DA but if that's the case then you'll likely hate Witcher.

Yeah i really want to 'fix' this, with an option or mod if possible, also im a bit surprised i didn't see any complaints about it before buying, i honestly don't see how this tedious form of combat can be considered fun by anyone, even when you change to the right weapon its very slow hit and miss, if it was quick hack and slash i could live with changing weapons but having both is quite annoying.

Steam tells me I've played four hours thus far, I have to say initially I thought it was rather wooden and 'chunky' in feel. Given a bit more time it's starting to grow on me, the first castle 'tutorial' section is a bit average but once you start rolling with the story and interacting things pick up.

Combat is a little daft, not awful, but not great either. I can live with it.

Atmosphere seems to be the game's strong point, it has heaps so far and I'm only four hours in.

I own DA and 19 hours in to that I have no desire to finish it or retrace my footsteps, I think the game got pretty repetitive, attractive in parts but ultimately the same missions sugar coated.

So I'm enjoying the Witcher, I'll let you how I feel after another 4-5 hours.

Thinking about it, it's probably because I find the first person aspect of FO3 etc. much more immersive. Also, combat and discovery interests me more than the crafting aspect of gaming.

I like the witcher combat, requires more accurate timing and was also interesting reading up on the monsters to see which style of fighting is most effective against them. Added to the strategy a little imo.
