The Witcher - worth playing?

I like the witcher combat, requires more accurate timing and was also interesting reading up on the monsters to see which style of fighting is most effective against them. Added to the strategy a little imo.

I didn't realise that! Thanks for the tip. :D

completed! at bloody last...not bad took about 2 weeks pretty solid. feel exhusted now, not sure if i want to play the second one if it takes this long (like my games a little shorter)

overal id rate it an 8, as for the acts:

prologue: 7 - simple training stuff
act 1: 8 - liked this one a lot, nice intro to the proper game
act 2: 7 - took far too long, although going round activating stones was cool , as was the golum. swamps are horrible though
act 3: 8 - good story development
act 4: 7 - over really quickly , and pretty much a break from the main plot
act 5: 6 - not for me too combat heavy
epliogue: 4 - ending was good, but proper lame how much hack and slash you have to do just to get to the end boss.

next up batman! which i hear is much shorter. :)

Steam says I played Dragon's Age for 19 hours but I got pretty bored and can't remember anything of it.

I've so far played 10 hours of The Witcher and I'm still enjoying it, it's not as polished but the settings interesting as to the story and sideplots. They make it feel less like 'run here, talk to person, run there, talk to another person' which is practically what most RPGs are.

Is it worth playing? Any mods, graphical updates I should get with it?

I see a 2nd one is coming out, is it a continuation of the story?

Many thanks.

i had the witcher, didn't really play it. then got brought the witcher enhanced edition. From what i've played (which is about 40 minutes worth) is the graphics aren't too bad, the sound is good. The combat was a bit weird and i couldn't get the hang of the interface and menus. i didnt really understand the story of the game tbh i think its okay but you'd be best to play a game like dragon age

Same as a lot of folk here, I really wanted to get into it but couldn't. I think it may have been the combat modes that bothered me.

You have to persevere with the GUI and controls, once you've given it a chance it does improve ... and that's coming from someone that doesn't normally play this type of game!

Doesn't excuse the invisible walls preventing you moving outside of the areas they want you to play in and the rather poor quests. I swear most people like this for the random dirty bits!

I have my flame shield ready for this,

But I feel the same about Dragon Age as I do The Witcher. In both games I often lose track on what the game wants me to do, i feel closed in with the linear maps and cannot get immersed at all into the games. I think though it may be more me than the game when it comes to Dragon Age

It depends how you played the game. I massively leveled up my Igni/Aard signs, along with sign-based skills and sign-based potions.

No hack and slash whatsoever for me, I pwned each lot of mobs with an Igni one-shot in the epilogue, and even the end guys were a doddle to be fair :p

I can't wait for the second, though I think they need to look a bit more into balancing the signs :)

What invisible walls? The only walls that prevented you going anywhere were actuall walls, or walls of scenery. Whilst some of the secondary quests were RPG-cliches, the primary storyline was amazing.

i feel closed in with the linear maps

We must have been playing a different game, I don't remember any linearity in The Witcher whatsoever :p

You're not alone, after 19 hours I found Dragon Age to much of a chore to carry on... just lost interest.

Who knows, the Witcher might befall the same fate.

I've tried to plod through this game a few times over the last few years. Each time I get plagued by crash bugs, even on the enhanced edition. Couple that with some dreadful auto-save intervals and you've got yourself one unplayable game. Which is a shame, as my friends that did complete it really enjoyed their time with it. The sequel looks really great though!

Of the 35 hours I played this game it didn't crash, lag, and I didn't notice an auto save once. Maybe something wrong with your graphic drivers, or setup?

The game played fine when I played through it as well. I thought this game was great, I can't wait for the second one.

I'm currently playing through this, not very far at the moment (just cleared the Crypt at the first village bit).

I'm not a huge fan of the extremely in depth talents system and inventory but I can live with it. The combat system is a bit odd but again, I'm getting used to it.

Certainly preferring OTS cam so far.
