Bolt could be in contention for third behind the two American Drugs Cheats which should be good enough to take the title when they're both banned later in the year.

Final has 4 runners with drugs bans

He hasn't had the races to find his form this year because of injury. He's capable of running 9.7/8 but the pressure's all on him so he'll be tight and likely mess up the start again. Gatlin's cruised through to the final and looked a class above everyone else and I expect a PB from him in the final.

Interesting. I didn't realise there were runners in this line up currently doping.
I thought for instance that Gatlin was found out a while ago but is clean now, but I really haven't followed that side of it.

Should've said, who have had drugs bans.

Gatlin (USA), Rodgers (USA), Gay (USA), Powell (Jamaica).

Yeah, tbh, they should never have been allowed to run again, should have been perma bans. Makes you wonder if doping in any way permanently changes muscle strength/structure to give them an advantage even when they've stopped taking drugs, i.e, is Gatlin's sub 9.8 times due to that. I mean he looks older than Bolt, and Bolt is struggling to get anywhere near sub 9.8, let alone his own PB of sub 9.6.

The fact Gatlin's been banned twice really winds me up. I'm all for giving people a second chance (within reason) but not a third.

Gatlin's 33, Bolt's only 29 :)

Bolt's had hamstring injuries all year and has barely run. Assuming he makes a full recovery he should be back to his best in time for the Olympics next year and Gatlin will hopefully be banned again.

I heard Michael Johnson saying Bolt will never be back to his best because for a sprinter, at 29, he's coming towards the end of his career. Even ignoring his past bans, it makes you wonder how Gatlin's getting faster and faster at 33.

Yeah, actually, I take an even harsher approach regarding drugs. One strike and you're out.

In the 100m heats yesterday, one runner jumped the gun. While I think it's overly harsh, the rules say you don't get a second chance and he was removed for a false start.

And yet it's ridiculous when with something far more serious, ie, doping, they're allowed to compete again, especially as you say, as Gatlin was already banned twice.

I think the style of the runner makes a big difference. We've never seen anyone as tall and lanky as Bolt before so it's far harder to judge if he's peaked or not.

Similarly, Johnson peaked at 31/32 but had a very unique running style so may have peaked at an earlier age if he ran in a more orthodox style.
