The worst car(s) you have ever owned/driven?

Had to drive my mate's old Automatic Astra (L Reg) last night and that was pretty shocking  Can't remember what size engine, but I think it's powered by dual hamsters.

The one before the bubble shaped one. It wasn't that bad really until it started to get huge numbers of miles on it and slowly disintegrate around me. (I put 25k per year on it for about 3 or 4 years, and it had 90k when I got it).

Lopez/gilly may remember the state it turned up in at one of the things in stoke just before I changed it...

My rents bought theres as a last resort as they were in deep financial trouble.. they absolutley hated it. :o

Many years ago now lol

Renault 11. 1985 French car built at a time where the French tried to get cocky with electronics. No, just no.

The car had voice announcements which was controlled by something that was very broken. In the winter I'd start it up and then it would announce WARNING ENGINE OVERHEATING, STOP VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. It was minus 3 outside, engine had been running for 3 seconds and I'd not moved an inch. It did this every time it was cold. Then it would also ironically announce "electrical problem detected" and I should visit "an approved dealer". I thought about driving the car straight through the Renault dealers showroom, but I was only TPFT.

It also suffered with a nasty hesitation issue which three times tried to kill me at t-junctions.

Suspension was either broken or geometry was out because under braking at anything over 40 mph the back end would step out.

Headlamp adjust stuck in the low postion so I couldnt see at night.

Economy was interesting. From memory it was around 32fpg. That's fuses per gallon.

Nasty car. It made me want my Allegro back.

Nissan sunny "C" reg 1.3,

Poor excuse for a car, but it was free. 0-6 in about a year, no chance of doing any overtaking manouvers with its feeble HP and tourqe, nopower steering, it eat petrol and oil at an alarming rate!

a mates mum gave it to me to get it off her drive, so i decided to learn in it. 6 weeks later with liscence in hand i weighed it in at t he local scrappy, and bought my next crap car... 1.3 escort.

Some of the cars mentioned in this thread sound awful! My worst car was a 106 1.1, slow, under steered a lot and the brakes were crap. It also had a problem where it would decide it didn't want to start for at least half an hour randomly and after spending a fair amount of money trying to get this fixed I part exchanged it where luckily it started first time as the dealer took it out for a quick check over.

These are all cars I've driven: No major problems with any of the 4 cars i've owned.

The 0.8 automatic Chevy Matiz should be the worse - but in a way it was so cheap and bad it was amusing.

The 1.3 Toyota Yaris (new shape) Semi-Auto has the worst gear change ever and made passengers sick.

The Renault Grand Scenic (latest shape) 1.6 petrol was bad. Way too puny for the car size and the most pointless 6 speed gearbox in the world. Only car where you can go from 1st to 6th! All combined with traditional over soft renault controls and that stupid electronic parking brake.

Poverty spec 94 Clio - with a very asthmatic 1.2 engine that struggled to accelerate down hills. Luckily the cambelt went after a week and forced me to get another car.
Another was a Astra Belmont 1.8, the engine would suddenly get very lumpy and cut out for no apparent reason and ive seen shopping trolleys with less understeer. I was glad when it got stolen!

Some odd ones from me.

1988 Fiat Uno I thought was pretty bad at first but I was trying to drive it like a normal car. Once I figured out you have to hack it about all the time it was quite a lot of fun and you could chuck it about really well. Definitely a **** car but I loved it!

2000 Ford Focus. I had it for a couple of days as a pool car and hated it. Cruised fine but the driving position was awful. The wheel was too high, too big and too far away and I ended up with pains in my shoulders, numb hands and stiff wrists from driving it. The steering wheel was also just too big for the fact that it had power steering and the door was so far away you couldn't rest your arm on anything. That meant holding your arm up on the wheel on long journeys hence the shoulder ache. Also didn't like the way I felt disconnected to the road, very little feedback to the driver.

2000 Vauxhall Astra. Another one I had for a few days as a pool car and hated the driving position. The centre console was enormous and protruded into the driver side footwell so the pedals were slightly offset to the right. My left leg was permanently against the console and it got REALLY uncomfortable after a while.

I find it a lot with modern motors, the driving position is all safety orientated at the expense of the driving experience. I don't like being padded in with no feedback and I don't like electronic driver aids that kick in after I have already compensated myself.

Worst Car has got to be the Fiesta 1.1 on the L Plate. Just useless. My parents P Plate Fiesta 1.3 kicked it ass thats how bad it was... This is back in 2000:o

2 cars I didn't expect to see in here without major issues.

How tall are you btw?

I have a mk1 Focus and can rest my arm comfortably on the windowsill and steer with one hand ;)

Although I am 6'3"

First thing I noticed when i first drove a Focus was how big the steering wheel is. Reason for that is though is because the instruments are so wide that you need the wheel large enough to see through it ;)

All my hire cars so far bar one have been Corsas and it's given me a whole new insight into the awful cars they are, so far i've driven:

Corsa C 1.0 Auto
Corsa C 1.2 SXI
Corsa D 1.2 SXI

They were all with out a doubt rubbish, the 1.0 Auto 3 pot the worst of them all. Interestingly, bar some styling bits, the new Corsa is as dull and rubbish as the old one!
