The worst car(s) you have ever owned/driven?

A new VW Passat 2.0 TDI "Sport" I had from Helphire. I get the impression that merlin may agree with me :D

I truly loathe mine, but it's nowhere near the worst car I've ever had. At least it doesn't rattle, or leak, or fail to start, or feel unsafe.

Anyway, that's enough compliments for the pos. Funniest thing about the new shape VW Passat is that you see people driving them around who clearly bought them with their own money. WTF were these people thinking? To part with £17,000 of your own money and only get a VW Passat in return is ******g ludicrous, but people actually do it.

See the 'Do I spend £18k on a Golf' thread last week and some of the ridiculous replies that everyone who thought £18k on a Golf was a bad idea was a 'loser'.

Did that have a coin catcher in the door?

I've no idea. Probably. It looked like the entire development budget had gone onto foldaway storage bins, again made of horrid plastic, and seat folding methods.

Do you know what sucked about it the most - it was supposed to be a Mercedes E Class but BMW Assist said 'Oh we didnt realise you were under 23 sorry you can't have one of those even though we normally do like for like' :(

Ive driven a lot of really really bad cars, i would say the worst has to have been a new VW Polo 1.2 for the only reason that the engine is completely unsuitable for the car. It was dangerously slow, couldnt top 80 on a long flat motorway, and you really had to thrash it just to keep up with the traffic when joining.

2006 Vauxhall Meriva 1.4 Life.

Absolutely 100% awful - even the crappest of cars have a redeeming feature, the Corsa SXi 1.2 for example didnt look that ugly. But not the Meriva. It was devoid of any redeeming features whatsoever.

It was horrific to look at
The indicators scared me becuase I genuinelly expected them to come off in my hands when I used them.
Mr Kipling use better plastic in their exceedingly good cake boxes.
It rattled when accelerating.
It was a mini MPV thing with a 1.4 litre engine - I literally had to slot it into 2nd and bury my foot in the carpet just to keep up with traffic joining the A38. It was terrible.
Obviously an MPV didnt handle but this took 'didnt handle' to a whole new level. Every corner I felt I was going to tip over.
The steering was so light I wondered if it was connected to the steering rack using a bowl of yoghurt and a wisk.

It is quite simply the worst car I have ever driven.

Anyone who spends their own money on a car this bad is a lost cause.

That's the crappest car you've driven? So you've never really gotten your hands dirty and driven some old knackered 80s/early 90s hatch or something? ;)

 My sister has an 06 1.2 polo, naff car but she always scares me on the motorway doing 100+ indicated. Its a bottom of the range 5 door

Do they do a smaller engined version than 1.2? This could barely crack 80, maybe 85-90 at a push i guess given enough time.

no, just various outputs of the 1.2, ranging from 55bhp to 70bhp
the 55 has a quoted top speed of 95mph

a friend was using his sister's for a while, and he said the same thing as you. it was horrendously slow :p

Top speed of 95 would likely show as high 80's on a speedo on a car like that so i guess it must have been the 55bhp model.

Shocking car. Made me rather glad to get back into my V8 when i got home (was a rental in scotland) :p

You have a lot to learn with regard to poor cars, sure I agree that a Vauxhall Meriva 1.4 Life probably makes you want to end yours, but, as others have said, theres sooo much worse out there! - In the grand scheme of things, the Meriva is not that bad at all.

Good for you, you have thus far avoided B&Q Shed motoring! ;):)

What car of the same age is actually worse? The meriva is a shocking car!

Mine rattled and the retarded key thing kept getting stuck in the ignition :(

Hehe, I had one of those as a loan car once, you could drive it everywhere with your foot flat to the floor :D

I bought a 1984 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.3 Auto saloon about ten years ago.

Absolutely awful car to drive, I only bought it for the cherished number plate that was on it which I still have and has been on many of my cars, currently sitting on my Vectra 3.0 V6.

The other one that springs to mind was a Vauxhall Brava pickup.

We got these at work throughout our Fire & Rescue Service and the first time I drove it as I was coming off a motorway slip road, I nearly tipped the thing over as it went around the corner. I wasn't even driving that quickly!!!.

I think the worse car i have driven is a TATA pick up that was about 5years old. I took it for an MOT for the owner & was horrified at how it drove. Not the worst car i have driven though as that has to be one of my many sheds i used to buy from scrappys, Spanner for a day or two then run them until they died.
Judging by previous posts on this forum if i described them half of the members here wouldn't sleep for 6 months :p

No mate, I was thinking more along the lines of previous motoring diasaters, comparing an '06 Vauxhall to some of the relics from the 70's & 80's that I've driven, puts it on par with the best BMW has to offer, by comparison.

I agree, in todays market I doubt theres little worse.

I think fox was probably comparing like with like as a modern car, its obviously not as bad as some of the old stuff (of which neither he nor i would have any reason to have driven :))
