The worst ISP ever....?

I was on Tosscali for about 6 yrs till i saw the light in May just gone, speeds are terrible, they traffic shape, have an FUP, they false advertise.... the list goes on.

Peak Times of the FUP are 6pm - 11pm, your not allowed to browse, game, nothing during those times as they will slap you with an FUP warning, get 3x and you get bunged on the *bad by pipe* which is even slower, i mean come on, your paying about what £10-£15 a month, you don't think your allowed to use the internet as well do you, i mean come on you don't pay an ISP to use the internet.

You wanna be carefull as if you post on here, or read a couple of threads during peak times they'll FUP yer, hell they only have to detect you connecting up to the internet during peak times and they'll say you used to much bandwidth have an FUP warning. :D

I was on 1mb getting 20k downloads with an upload rate of 0.5k or less as the shapings that bad, shaping started about 8am in the morning till 1am, and you also had to deal with the FUP as well, scores of ppl complaining saying i cant get more than 20k outside of the peak hrs of the FUP, yes thats because most of the FUP's hrs are inside the traffic shaping hrs, FUP has nothing to do with the shaping, both are seperate, and both have their own times, they are absolutely dire, go read the forums, go read ADSLguide etc...

Even the 8mb MAX is a joke, they won't allow more than 30k download, jesus what a waste, they should take everyone of MAX and just stick em all on a 256k connection, 8mb is a waste when they will only let you have 30k, jesus i know ppl who are only on a 512k connection, and they are getting much faster speeds than those on Tosscalis 8mb, they get double the speed as they get the full 60k's LMAO. :D :D

Hello again.

Just received a call from Sky, but it wasn't the technical support team.

They said that BT have been doing some work in the area that I live in for a few days.... And when the work has been complete my internet speed will pick up.

Is it just me or does this sound like complete and utter bull **** ??

How can that effect my internet speeds !?!!?

Do you have a Right To Cancel period and will this 'few days' take you beyond it ? It's not unheard of for BT to do exchange upgrades but on the other hand if this upgrade takes you beyond the RTC dates i'd be sceptical and at least ask for a confirmation that they will let you disconect if the improved speed's promised never materialise.

I think I'll give them a few days.... And if my internet speeds still hasn't picked up, I'll disconnect with them.

I got promised high speed internet, and I'm simply not getting it.

EDIT : Wow... Connected at 100kbs.... :o :o This sucks.

Hmm.... Just found out that in my router settings it says I'm connected as something a lot higher   ... When I'm not...

If that's what the modem's reporting, that's what you're connecting at. Whether it's what throughput you get is another matter entirely, but that's a totally different issue...

My Dad (against all my recommendations) got Toucan at home, now i'm back from uni for Christmas I can confirm that it is the worst ISP in the history of the world.

It annoyed me enough in the summer after it was slower than 56k because i'd gone over the generous 1gb PER MONTH limit  , but since i've been away at university and my Dad's PC has been broken, there's no chance in hell he has broken that download limit and yet...2 months later its as slow as ever.

Pinging Google throughout the day today and the lowest average ping i got was 120ms (2mb line, supposedly). Just pinged again, average; 260ms.

WOOOOOOOOOOO.

This is a ******* joke seriously...

Just ran another line test and I'm at 36.4 Kbps ....

Maintenance or no maintenance... This isn't right.

It's a value you should find it in your router's web interface.

It gives some indication of how good/bad/otherwise your line is (and is generally useful in diagnosing these sorts of faults)...

okay the reason you maybe getting poor speeds is beause judging by what your syncing at you have may have a big amount of header and crc errors and the exchange just cant handle them and guessing at your speed is sorting around 20% of those errors.

You WILL need your line capped and your margins adjusted and then you will notice a substantial increase, of course this is all relative untill looking at your line stats from the exchange.

If you where told there is upgrades by bt at your exchange it wont affect your speed as your on sky llu equiptment. Have you had a slow speed ticket raised and are awaiting a callback from tier3? if so its normally 5-7 days for callbacks to be done. the above would be done untill no errors on your line or a small amount of corrected errors after data passing through, you will then notice a massive speed diffrence, im not going to bull you it will take time.

sky are good with compensation and if you are getting terrible speeds will not be held to the contract. if theres anything else u need just ask me. :)

All this is assuming your local setup is correct. filters etc.

Who would have thought ey?

Gonna switch over to Sky in a few weeks.

Cheaper, faster and easier than Tiscali.

I wish people would stop spouting about Tiscali, its simply unfounded nonsense. If I were going to point fingers at an ISP for being awful it would be namesco, slowest connection ive ever used. Plusnet are second in line.

Seconded! I'm still mystified as to why I migrated to them, they were crap when they were known as Netdirect, they were crap when they became Ision, they were crap when then became NDO and they're still crap as Namesco.

NTL were the worst for me, 6 months of constant connection drops, the amount of time i spent on the bloody phone to them is biblical.

Moved to namesco now and havent had any problems yet! (fingers crossed)
