Xbox pad was the first pad to make FPS on console feel good though.
For me, the Dreamcast pad was good to use, but having the wire come from the bottom of the controller was off putting. I quite liked the original xbox controller as it sat well in my hands.
The worst controller for me was probably the NES one. The edges were like razors!

There are some comedians in this thread. Xbox, NES, N64, 3DO, Gamecubes controllers nominated as the worse controller ever???

Unless you've used the Amiga CD32 joypad you can't really appreciate how cheap and nasty this controller was. It even has a little Dpad stick-on bit in order to actually give the Dpad some groves, overly long and horrible buttons. The controller was coming out of a company that but that stage clearly had no money for R&D.
Other than that I think I would say the original Atari 2600 joystick - hard as nails but would give you cramps after prolonged use. Failing that the Jaguar Joypad was bad as well, but didn't spoilt Tempest 2000.

Yep it did.
Really like the Dreamcast controller, but wow it sucked for FPS's (not that there was many, if any, but i did get Quake working on it). The toggle and d-pad on the one side sucked.

Actually make that 24cm if I put up with a bit of pain...
I just measure it at a comfortable stretch, if I stretch too far then I can't actually push down on both ctrl keys

Loved gamecube, 360, hated psp (if that counts)
If PSP counts then that is my nomination, it is the only console/handheld i have ever used that has caused me physical pain no matter what game i try and play. Street fighter is just impossible on it.
I'd also like to give honourable mention to the d-pad on the N64, while it may be more accurate than the 360 d-pad it just had such damn sharp corners. Killer Instinct 64, while awesome, would cause me serious pain in more than 15-min long stints, actually made my thumb bleed once.
People saying the DS3, yeah it may be the worst controller of this generation, but seriously how can you say it was worst than say, the NES controller? 2 buttons and a rather rubbish d-pad all in a rather pointy-cornered box. Great for its time, but a joke in comparison to even the DS3.

N64 was dreadful, also the Dreamcast thumbstick got very uncomfortable after a while... can anyone say blisters?
