***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

I have to disagree. Some people are susceptible to acne well into their twenties, irrespective of diet and environmental factors.

I thought that drinking water can assist in reducing the chances of spots? It also can improve your skin tone, which is main reason why you see (female, catwalk) models drinking lots of water, even though their diet is bad.

Just had a skim through a few papers and there isn't a definitive pattern between certain foods and acne. Whether that is dairy, fatty acid, carbohydrate intake and other factors. And obviously the way people's bodies react to certain amounts of food types, supplements quantities is different person to person.

The papers I looked at have all said that more research is needed and that would mean more funding but the area isn't well funded by pharmaceutical companies so it's hard to get good research into it.

edit---->

I must be seriously bored to even bother looking for research papers on diet and acne! :D :(

Not helped by her appalling diet of junk food, chocolate at energy drinks!
.

Not really. Its indicative of a poor diet and too much makeup. She is 17 not 14. Puberty related acne should have passed in a girl her age.

Annoys me no end when people say this diet has little or no effect on the complexion of your face:(

I had very bad acne for years and my diet was above average. In the end the doctors approved me to be one of the first few to have roactane in this country.

The doctors warned me of the risks and basically said it will work but the
side effects will be very bad dry lips and skin. In short diet plays no effect in acne and very little is known about acne.

Back on topic i can't stand her either :p

Utter trash it's scary believe this. It's pure myth made up by the bottled water companies

Mainly because most people "grow" out of acne so there is very little money to be made for these drug companies.

Anyway random lecture over with now I promise :)

Thats clearly not true many a song has been much more harshly handled, yes it's not the origional and it's not a master piece but it's certainly not the worst cover in the history of the world and it is for a very good cause.

I thought it was terrible and captured absolutely nothing that makes the original so special. Nobody could do that song as good as Bowie did probably, but that was a deadful attempt.

Yeah it does. poor diet can cause poor skin, including spots. Not all spots are acne (as in the diagnosed condition rather than just poor complexion as in Cher's case)

However over active Sebaceous glands can be caused by poor diet....

http://www.acne-resource.org/acne-skin-care/foods.html

Sebaceous glands may have excess oil production due to:

* Hormones (Androgens, which are sex hormones and are released during puberty and throughout life, excite sebaceous glands)
* Heat (Body heat and increased circulation, such as from vigorous exercise, may stimulate the sebaceous glands to release more sebum)
* Friction (Tight clothing, chin straps, head bands, or bra straps, can irritate the skin and stimulate the sebaceous glands to release oil)
* Irritation (Over scrubbing or using harsh cleansers can irritate the skin and dry it out excessively, stimulating the sebaceous glands to react)
* Poor Diet (Our bodies are fueled by a balanced diet, Vitamins A and E are important to the elasticity and health of the skin)

Key word here is MAY not can! Misinformation on this gets right on nerves! Yes they are different sorts of acne which may/can be caused by bad diet, stress, hormones and several other things which are unexplained as yet.

It's not often I come on ocuk forums stating facts as people look up and read the entire Internet to prove a fact.

From memory people were fed a diet of chocolate for 3-6 months to see if it affected there acne. The result was no conclusive proof.

What I'm trying to say is there are various "facts" out there but few if any have proved anything hence the word may in many facts out there .

My 2p worth and i have suffered a huge amount with this :o

So your 'fact' that diet plays no part in acne was actually not a fact at all...

btw, can or may makes no difference in this context. I said it can, I could have said it may, both would have been equally valid so frankly I don't know what you're ranting about.

So drinking plenty of water doesn't improve your skin....

utter rubbish.

I think you are far too hung up on your diagnosed acne condition to realise the difference between that and poor complexion caused by poor diet and overuse of cosmetics as is the most likely reason for Cher's poor skin.

I'd imagine that list of causes is in highest probability order, with diet being at the bottom not really being considered that much.

Plenty of research out there says diet beig a cause is not conclusive

It's like people saying too much chocolate causes spots!

Chocolate is quite good for you believe it or not.

I feel that people are confusing acne with a poor complexion. They are not always the same thing at all.

Cher's complexion is most likely caused by overuse of cosmetics and poor skincare and a lack of vitamins in her diet.

Any woman will tell you, cosmetics play havoc with your complexion if you don't use precautions and maintain good hygiene.
