***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

Anyone else seen the stories about the supposed 'vote leaks' saying Wagner is constantly in the top half of votes. Is it just me that thinks this is another ploy to get him out? i.e. tell everyone hes safe with tons of votes so less people feel the need to vote. This program makes you so skeptical with its constant fixing and double standards.

I'm pretty sure they've decided who they want on the Cowell record contract come the final 12 - ensuring a couple of 'freebies' thrown in for Louis' record label and the usual tabloid fodder that generates what I imagine to be a hefty wedge of cash.

I'm thinking his girlfriend probably knew Matt quite well.

That proves nothing. A woman scorned and all that.

Do you work on the show or did you just happen to get these stories from the PRESS?

Like I said, I accept their bias and probable exaggeration. I also made it plain that my opinion is based on what I see, not what I read.

You're the type of guy that would say black is white just to have a differing opinion for the sake of things! You have an ego the size of a house. In my opinion, of course.

From 'falsetto' to 'acne', Castiel is always the expert. :D

You don't know me well enough to be able to make that kind of assumption of my character. I make no such judgements on you, you may well be a nice guy. I couldn't possibly comment.

You appear to take offence when someone disagrees with you, I don't know if that is a character flaw or just the inability of a forum post to effectively put across your views in the manner you intend. I would like to think it was the latter. Benefit of the doubt and all that.

At least my ego is not so large that I would not admit when I am mistaken or wrong, as my conversation with Dmpoole and Elvisfan will attest to. Can you say the same?

As much as I completely hate everything that Matt Cardle has done on X-Factor I'm quite enjoying his Seven Summers album.

Yeah, I gave this a couple of listens too. It's a shame that somebody who had a hand in writing, producing and recording a pretty accomplished album feels the need to sell their soul and court so-called "success" on such a tawdry show. Sad, really.

Elton John was saying something similar a little while ago. He suggests that shows like the Xfactor saturate the market and stifle real talent coming through.

Matt probably thought, if you can't beat them join them.

I wouldn't call it "sad".

XFactor is perhaps the biggest show on British TV.

By showcasing your talent on this TV show, all the important people (record execs (who will sign you up) and the public (who may buy your records)), get to see you first hand. Even if you don't win, you could well find that you get signed up on the back of your appearance on this show. Dianne Vickers and JLS are great examples.

I can't see how anybody, who genuinely wants to see others do well for themselves, will begrudge people like Cardle, from having a go at XFactor.

What's next, suggesting that an 18 year old is selling out by applying/attending Cambridge/Oxford University?

There is an undeniable stigma attached to it however. It makes you wonder with people like Matt and Rebecca - what have they been doing wrong so far?

I mean they both have great/incredible vocals - is there something we don't know?

It isn't a talent competition show however - forgive me for stating the obvious. It's entertainment.

For example the best vocalist last year was that Daniel chap and even Olly Murs (who to be fair is now doing good) had more blatant profitability than that annoying little Joe M'ALL'DERRY.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if Katie or Cher won the show this year, despite Matt and Rebecca being miles ahead of them as performers.

So people stop caring when they see this. And hopefully they'll vote Wagner. :D

There is a stigma attached to the show and its contestants. That is true.

However, all this show is, is a platform to allow you to go on to bigger and better things. This show guarantees that your first single becomes huge. After that, it is up to you (the singer), to work hard, make contacts and convince the right people that they should invest in you.

Also, the quality of your vocals do not dictate how successful you will be as a singer. There are many other qualities which dictate your level of success.

Lady gaga was one of (if not the) biggest selling artist of the last couple of years. She certainly doesn't have anywhere near the best voices on this planet.

The key is to first get yourself a record deal with a big company. You must then convince them to invest in you heavily. This means spending large sums of money on advertising your CDs and tour. It also means investing in your music videos. If you can get them to do this, then you stand a better chance of becoming "big".

It is still possible to become successful without the assistance of a big record company, but these days, this is rare.

As long as you finish in the top 3-4 on XFactor, providing you have convinced record bosses enough, you will stand a great chance of getting yourself a record contract and perhaps making it "big".

Katie is very interesting. It is clear that for whatever reason, she is not liked by the public. However, record company bosses seem to like her. So, they will sign her up and push her music upon the public very hard (in about 12 months time). This will be the acid test as to whether or not a record company can make someone who isn't liked by the public, a success.

I really do hope that Wagner wins this. That would be fantastic.

Massive gamble on Wagner today. He's now as low as 6-1 with one bookie. It's all down to the rumours of him consistently being in the top 3.

It's probably a ploy from Camp Cowell although it wouldn't actually surprise me if Waggers really is in the top 3!

Do they? Then why has she failed twice before to break in to the industry?

She did not fail because the record execs didn't like her. They even gave her her own tv show. For company bosses to do that, they would have to be totally behind the person. How many people can you name who got their own tv show without being a celebrity or well-known before hand? Furthermore, record execs have previously signed her up to a record label.

All of the above suggests that getting the bosses to like her and sign her up, is not the problem. The problem is that the public don't like her and I'm not sure what Katie can do to win the public over.

Perhaps if the record label spends a horrendous amount of money on marketing her, they might be able to turn the tide. Perhaps this is what they have planned and don't want to give up on her just yet.
