The Z77 Sabertooth Club.

I would just write to Asus. Tell them the IO plate is missing and can they send you one.
Apart from the IO plate, data cables, sli bridge, what else is missing.

Everything.

Just the motherboard itself came in a brown box, that was it.

I think im going to return it and buy it brand new.

cheers

If you dont fit the middle cooling fan does it make the board too hot? Anyone have any alternative solutions in place?

With the centre motherboard fan I had to take it out as the Titanium HD soundcard wouldn't fit as it got in the way. Really bad design imo.

Yeh this is the problem I see (if I fit the centre fan). I will need to place my soundcard between the graphics cards... :( Hey, if the temps are fine without the centre fan then I can fit the soundcard above the first graphics card.... and yes a real bloody silly design putting that centre fan there...nobends!

I doubt very much you need this fan at all mate. I have Sythe GT's on the VRM's of my Formula / xtreme board and evan with 1.85v Core, 1.35 VCCIO , 1.9 VDDR etc etc the heatsinks are not even hot to the touch. Ivy CPU draws very little current to be honest.

Thanks for that 8 Pack, you seem like a very knowledgeable chap. :) I may need to call upon your expertise when I start O/C my new build. ;)

Ask away mate, I am a so called Asus power user, although its ROG boards I use mainly. I am sure I can help here too.

Yeh there's nothing I can do as I run SLI. Placing the soundcard inbetween the GPU's is not an option and placing it at the bottom PCIE slot will suffocate air flow going to the cards. I can only place it at the top PCIE slot as the only viable option. But that means disconnecting the 35mm fan on the motherboard.

IIRC the fan acts as an exhaust, so I don't know what component is under that exact spot generating heat which needs a fan.

Depends on the length of the sound card and what graphics card you have. My Asus STX fits fine below my second reference GTX680 in the bottom slot and isn't long enough to interfere with the intake fan. Not to mention the second graphics card always runs a few degrees cooler in SLi anyways.

The little fans seem a bit pointless if you ask me, but then I do have an inverted case so airflow is pretty good coming up from the bottom so chipset temps are fine.

Im going to try it without connecting the bottom fan and installing the soundcard in the top slot. 8 Pack recons its not really needed.... we will see! ;) I cant get over how that bottom fan placement was designd. Really REALLY bloody stupid! If they moved it over to the right an inch it would have made all the difference and we wouldnt be in this pickle!

If you have good airflow in your case forget that fan. Its fine!!!

I just checked the design of that board and to me the top fan is much more necessary as its near the VRM. On Z77 there is actually nothing under that area other than a heat pipe. Even MVG, MVE and MVF dont have it and they have serious voltage available to them. IE 2v + CPU 2V + RAM etc etc .........

Install the top fan and good case airflow = SORTED!!!!

Did you guys use the ASUS software when over clocking? I am new to this and was wondering what sort of numbers I should be looking at?

i5 3570k, Sabertooth Z77, 16GB Samsung Green, 7970 3GB, H50 Watercooler.

There is a basic overclocking guide (with UEFI screenshots) up to 4.6GHz which I wrote at the beginning of the thread. Follow that and you should be fine. I don't think you can go much higher with Ivy and this sort of cooling but around 4.5 - 4.6 should be ok.

Installed the new BIOS and I have had 6 random shutdowns and barely get further than 5 minutes without a shutdown, speed typing right now!

It seems to be stable since I posted that message, I have no testing software but will be overclocking it as soon as i think it can handle it......
