The Z77 Sabertooth Club.

was just about to post about the new bios. Well I wish I could overclock my i5 ivy. I'm useless at cpu overclocking. I just wish it was as easy as overclocking a gpu.

So what's the word on this board OC potential, I finished my build recently and now trying to overclock, 4.2Ghz seems to be a wall. I found that 1.185v is as low as I can get it stable but anything above 4.2 (even 4.3) needs like 0.1 more volts, its seems insanelly unstable at anything above 4.2

Can't be temps either prime 95 at 1.185 @4.2 was around 63max

So instead of manual volt I changed bios to negative offset of seems to be working well right now, about to put it on 12h prime 95.

But what's up with 4.2? Have I got a bad chip or something? I only changed multiplier and volts so far.

Are SSDs fully used by mobo's?

Good evening!

I have just joined the sabretooth owners club :-D Already however, i have my first question! I have robbed a vertex II 128Gb SSD from my old rig. I was going to use this as a boot drive and keep my new crucial m4 256Gb for games etc. The crucial on paper is twice as fast as the vertex, would this be noticeable in real terms? I am unsure of the board limitations in terms of read and write speeds and i couldn't find them in my manual (i was forced to read it :-P )

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thank you

As long as you connect them to sata 3 ports you will get around the speeds that are being advertised. I don't think there's any storage component that is limited by sata 3, what would be the point of making one if current boards can not utilize them :p

As for real difference, that's subjective, it's really up to you, I have no idea how they'd compare, you could use crucial for both windows and games and leave vertex 4 for media such as music and movies.

This was exactly what i was wondering, perhaps i am better doing that. Perhaps i should put in a sneaky wee 50Gb partition for windows only...

Decisions - decisions!!

I was not sure if the hard drives were more advanced than the motherboards - people would by them to future proof themselves ( in answer to your question ;) )

New BIOS is out.

Hey guys i just built my system the other day and i have to say the board is amazing and it looks great. can someone please please give me an answer of where their "thermal Radar" software is? i have the AI suite 2 installed and its not listed in my tools tab. bearing in mind i have an antec kuhler 620 installed and it doesn't have a 4 pin connecter but i have still put it in the CPU fan header. the only fans i have running off the board is the small fans that circulate air behind the armour. do i need 4 pin fans connected to use the Thermal Armour software? thanks.

Heres a picture of my setup.

had to paste the link as its a large picture with the direct link.

EDIT:
Just looked on the Asus site and im downloading the AI suite update. it includes thermal radar.

Having OC issuses tho. Cant seem to get a stable overclock when running Prime. After finding this thread, ill try some of the suggested settings and post my results.

Peace out Amigos - Muchas Gracias

Indeed, the safe mode key isn't board specific, it is operating system specific. It has been F8 for as long as I can remember for Windows.

Asus Z77 Sabertooth Fails to Boot. Boot_Device_LED & Keyboard not resonding (Solved)

I've been working on trying to get my PC to boot into Windows for the past 2 hours. Yesterday it was working finre and the last thing I did was watch Puss in Boots in 3D with my neice.

The symptions are:
Boot_Device_LED stays on Red; Keyboard does not respond when hitting "Del" to enter Bios. The system eventually boots into Windows by itself after 7 mins or so.

I've tried:
Clear CMOS.
Remove battery.
Reseat RAM and press Mem OK button.
Reseat GPUs.
Remove Crossfire bridge and attempt to boot up on one GPU.
Check SATA connections on SSD and attempt to boot on different cables and M/B connectors.
Attempt to boot on another SSD.
Tried another Keyboard.
Re-flash to an earlier BIOS using Asus Bios Flashback Utility after renaming bios file to Z77ST.CAP.
Tried calling the company I bought it from, only to find out they were closed as I was going to ask for technical help.

Solution:
So after hours of swearing in this humid weather and heat I thought I'd pull only connect critical peripherals. Last night I decided to charge my HTC via USB and connected it to the back of my PC (USB ports). After I removed that the computer finally booted up.

What a relief and also what a waste of time especially since my mobile connected via usb was to blame.

If you want the PC to boot then the mobile device has to be on, not in standby or switched off. I'll raise this with Asus so hopefully a bios update will fix this.

Hi guys I purchased one of these motherboards over the weekend for a new build. I tried using this ram but it appears to be incompatible.

I have the system up and running right now with some old blue G Skill Rip Jaw memory. I plan on purchasing some low profile vengeance ram. Is this stuff compatible with the board ? anyone else have it in their rigs ?

God it's such a nice looking board...

How are you guys finding the thermal armour? Gimmick or works? Do you need to use the fans? Does it even come with the fans?

drool@remy87's build.

odd the KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX is on the QVL, but the ../8GX isn't. I wonder what the difference is? Just look on the list with the manufacturer code of the RAM you want to buy for compatibility check.

Must watch for anyone curious about how the thermal armour actually works...this guy goes into some good detail about it.

From what I can tell, pretty nice design, dust cover for the whole board yet... intake fan at the back has no dust filter. Probably too small to matter but put's me off, also designed for downwards facing cpu coolers but who actually uses those anymore? Best looking board I've seen though.

Has anyone else had the CPU fan error issue come up? I've been able to get the Motherboard to ignore the problem but doesn't matter what Heatsink I plug into it. The only way I can get my motherboard to function without the message is by plugging one of the 3-pin small fans that come with the Asus Z77 into the 4-pin CPU FAN connector and over-riding it in BIOS!

Other than that I'm very happy with it :)
