Theft at work - RANT

Did you actually read the OP?

The bit where he says he actually lost the reader? If I was the other guy, I'd be ****ed off. Jerks that borrow my gear then lose it only to keep making excuses up, I have absolutely no time for them. Especially when they take the matter elsewhere (in layman's terms - snitching).

Great job Phate, really. You look like a douche to the other guy, and to the manager now.

Cheers for that link LeaguePosition14, so does anyone know what Phate's actual job role is, because I'm confused now, but either way, you both acted like fools. What a weird situation to get into, I don't think I'd go to my boss if someone took my phone, but then I don't think any of the people in my work are stupid enough to take my phone to get back at me !

Did you actually read the OP?

Yes, did you?

See it from him point of view: he took his memory card reader, didn't give it back, and kept making excuses. When people do that to me i get ****ed off.

If I was the other guy, I would have taken the money. over priced the product so I make some profit and get a better one :p ;)

probably what i would have done.

"sorry mate, lost your card reader, i'll replace it"
"ok then, i only paid a fiver it(£2), so give us a note and i'll pick one up later"

people are silly

Urm... why is everyone referring to Phate as an IT Director.. or are you taking the wee wee about something he's said in the past?

Long story short...

Phate was a temp, temp contract ended so IT director decided not to renew, uproar in office, IT director sacked, phate promoted to IT director.......

or at least thats what most people interpretted the thread as based on what he said !

Then you sir, clearly have issues if you were to get "****ed off" over something like a £2 card reader !

So you don't mind people borrowing your stuff and not giving it back? Maybe someone should pay yur house a visit and "borrow" all fo your valuables, see if that makes the point a little more clear.

This was never theft, he had no intention of perminantly depriving you of the item. He was just making sure he got back his family heirloom memory card reader.

Not when it's as insignificant as a £2 card reader no. In the same way that I wouldn't be bothered about an A-B USB cable, etc. It is very apparent that we live in a very stupid world where foolish pride gets in the way. So what, he borrowed something, and lost it, he was replacing it, personally I would have just said chuck us the money I paid for it. Fair enough be a smidge annoyed, but c'mon this is pathetic, and you, sir, are one of the reasons this world is so corrupt, you're too busy being a hard headed, impatient fool.

BTW cheers for the info, Conan.

re-re-re-re-re-reply time!

Well done, you have made yourself look a penis in front of most of your office and 2 managers all in one day over a petty argument

In this office it'll be forgotten about next week. And I haven't really, it was mainly kept between email apart from the time I fired off. Plus we are all really good friends with everyone in the department, some of em were mainly after gossip lol.

Not to mention a few on here laughing too! :p

That's always been the case hasn't it? :p

to be honest it would never get the far because after having left the reader in the car, I'd have gone "****, I left the reader in the car, better get another as I promised to return it today". the problem with this situation is it's actually Phate's fault that it all kicked off. the other guy could've responded better, but his actions were justified to make his point.

As I said before, I've been completely honest with the guy the whole way through, and had already ordered another (which turned up at home today LOL) so it's not as if I wasn't going to give it back, just funnily enough I have more pressing matters to worry about than a £2 card reader.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Phate is now the laughingstock of his office. I wouldn't want to show my face!

You don't know me, or my office then mate. I am not the laughing stock, we are constantly slating each other, doing stupid things having a good time. Nobody is the laughing stock, 90% of things are forgotten within a week, time moves very quickly in there due to it, it's a great place to work. :)

Were you not embarrassed by being taken to 1 side by your manager being told that you were acting pathetically? Im mean afterall, youre an IT director!!

No I wasn't. I knew it was pathetic, I knew it was coming, I said this to my manager, and I said that I dealt with it in what I thought was the best way without resorting to getting physical with him. Manager said fair enough and that was it. When I came back a few people cheered lol.

And I'm not an IT Director.

I would have been embarrassed. Not the best sort of thing to be told in a work environment. Hope the other guy got the same treatment though.

Like I said, I wasn't embarrassed, I didn't care enough to be embarrassed. The other guy would've got the same treatment, it's a very very fair place to work.

Urm... why is everyone referring to Phate as an IT Director.. or are you taking the wee wee about something he's said in the past?

Long story short, year before last I made a thread because the IT Director tried to get rid of me, he then got made redundant and I was then kept on and given some of his responsibilities to which I said on here (probably the only thing I regret doing on here) "so I'm kinda like an IT Director"

I'm sure this will have done your chances of a pay rise no end of good....

You acted like a school child imo.

Pay has been sorted, but thanks for asking ;)

As I said, I've been completely honest with him, had ordered him another, and had other stuff on to worry about a £2 reader. So what was I supposed to do? let him keep the phone? like hell I was, and I dealt with it in a way appropriate to the office so I wouldn't get in the crapper and just look like a school boy for about 30 seconds.

Great job Phate, really. You look like a douche to the other guy

I don't care, quite frankly the guy is a smug knowitall anyway and never had anything to do with him before.

and to the manager now.

Nope, it was all forgotten about and we were laughing and joking by 5.

1 x MAMMOTH reply :p

To all the people having a go at phate, why? his actions was completely right.

He borrowed a memory card reader
He lost is
He offered to buy a new one or give him the cash
The guy choose for him to order a new one
He Ordered the new one (due to arrive next week)
Told him it was due to arrive next week, which he was fine about (probably a bit annoyed but he did choose for him to order a new one)
Found the old one in his car but forgot to bring it in (but didnt tell *** guy this)
Gets a new phone nad has it taken right infront of him and deliberately while the new memory card is still being sent.
Tried to resolve it by asking for it back and giving reasonable time.
Escalated it further when the other party refused.

Yes he shouldnt of lost the memory card reader but, these things do happen. He didnt intend to do it and did everything he could to resolve it quickly.
The other guy completed blatent theft and was lucky the police was not involved which I am sure anyone else would have done had he actually left the office.

I fail to see how phate short of taking better care with the memory card reader (whcih tbh you should do with other people's things) could have done. Heck when my friends lose my stuff or dont give it back on time i either forget about it if it doesnt cost much and dont lend them stuff again or i make them pay for it (which they do).

So, Phate, OT - What is your actual job title to stop all the pee taking about the IT Director role..

My actual title is IT Administrator. It should be something else but it can't due to another guy who works there who is doing my old job is 15 years older than me.

I've been mucked about when I've lent things to people before but I wouldn't have acted like the guy who works with the OP.

I'd have left it for the time being. The guy clearly wasn't going to keep it for ever, Phate has another phone anyway, he WILL have given it back even if it ended up taking a day or two.
Pretty much what I expected from you, you whinge about phates actions yet your lack of backbone stops you from dealing with it in any manner other than pretending it's not happening.
