Theft at work - RANT

I would make him give it me back, I am not the manlyeset man ever so I don't wanna get all keyboard warrior but if someone took my £400 brand new phone I wouldn't move from their side until I had it back. unless he is holding it he would have to put it down sometime? don't be a wimp, show some backbone!

Take it to the police and tell them he has taken it from your car, that is theft.

What you did was lose a item 'given' to you by him, in the eyes of the law, he gave it to you, what he did was steal an item from you and now he is blackmailing you.

Id ring the phone company too and tell them he has stolen it and where he is as well.

Then again, im evil when someone winds me up that much.

Buy a card reader at lunch if it's that cheap.
Yeah people take things way too seriously but you took something of his, just replace it.

In his briefs.

Why give him till 3? You should have gave him 10mins.

Hell, with a keyboard in hand maybe 10 seconds?

Dude why are you waiting until 3? why not tell a manager by now?

Giving him the chance to think about what he's done and a good opportunity to give it back.

longer you leave it the longer he has to do something with it.

If he damages it I will be sending him the bill, and he WILL pay for it.

its stupid your leaving it so long but tbh it was clumsy of you taking so long to give it back - how long has it been now since he was meant to get it back? :S

Yeah I messed up, I've admitted that and explained this to him.

He was meant to get it back Tuesday...so like...2 days?

Get a card reader from a shop or something and slip it in his drawer. When he tries to defend why he took your phone to the manager, tell him where the card reader is, he obviously didn't hear you earlier :p

I can understand why he'd be annoyed that you've lost his card reader and even after ordering a new one still forget to give it back to him. However he doesn't have the right to take your phone as ransom.

I would just walk up and take the phone from him, if he tries to keep it from you then physically attempt to get it back and if you still can't, start saying very loudly that you demand your phone back so others hear.

If I did anything agressive I could risk my job! I'm not willing to do that over this..hence the manager approach.

No, I've ordered him one, and then found his original, so I'm already £12 out.

He's being an impatient spoilt brat

He clearly feels you have messed him about with constant excuses (which i agree with) i would have just gave him a fiver straight away when i thought i had lost.

If he had of taken my new phone i would have made sure i got it back from him one way or the other as soon as he took it,i wouldnt of pussy footed around waiting until 3pm.

I gave him the option of cash in hand or ordering one. He took the order...

lol yeah I can just imagine phate with that pic of his going into work with 2 bugsy malone style machine guns taking everyone out in mad laughter over a sony ericson lol.

but seriously dude. you dont give him time. why would he need 4 hours to think it over. clearly he thought about it before hand. if anything happens to the phone chances are they will say "your insured, you replace it". I honestly cant believe your going to give him the time of day to think about it. He's already stolen the phone infront of your eyes. Just report him to the manager and be done with it already. Making a mountain out of a molehill longer you leave it.

When he went away from his desk I went round and it wasn't there, or in his draws, so he must have it on him.

and I've searched my own draws and desk incase he trys to plant it on me when I was away from it :p

Maybe he is so fed up with your excuses regarding his card reader that he saw this as the only way to get it back? Regardless of the value of the card reader, it is his property and you are taking the **** offering him excuse after excuse to be quite honest. You borrowed something and failed to return it, what happens if he needs it in the mean time?

Comparing values of the items is pointless. If he requires the card reader while you faff around with it for an extended period of time then there is no wonder he is annoyed. I don't think he should have taken your phone, but you are in the wrong for holding onto his card reader for so long.

If you get your manager involved you will both look like petty children in a playground. I'd be embarrassed to witness this behaviour from either of you at work.

It is your fault for giving him countless excuses (you just made him angry), but taking your expensive phone that way is just unacceptable.

Go to the manager ASAP, he won’t give your phone back by 3pm if he already hasn’t done so.
