Theft at work - RANT

Maybe he is so fed up with your excuses regarding his card reader that he saw this as the only way to get it back? Regardless of the value of the card reader, it is his property and you are taking the **** offering him excuse after excuse to be quite honest. You borrowed something and failed to return it, what happens if he needs it in the mean time?

Comparing values of the items is pointless. If he requires the card reader while you faff around with it for an extended period of time then there is no wonder he is annoyed. I don't think he should have taken your phone, but you are in the wrong for holding onto his card reader for so long.

If you get your manager involved you will both look like petty children in a playground. I'd be embarrassed to witness this behaviour from either of you at work.
But you're missing the point, he ordered a new reader which the guy wanted and accepted the delivery date. That issues was closed. The fact he since found the original card reader is irrelevant.

I don't see how you can still value the phone at £450 when you wont spend another £2 to settle a dispute in work.

I've already ordered him a new one, and then found his orignal one, so I'm already out of pocket and originally offered him money as a replacement, which he didn't want.

If he had of taken my new phone i would have made sure i got it back from him one way or the other as soon as he took it,i wouldnt of pussy footed around waiting until 3pm.

yes I'm sure punching his lights out there and then would have been great, out of work maybe but in work there is a certain etiquette that needs to be adhered to.

The K850i is £279.99 unlocked, SIM free and brand new from leading retailers. Why are you declaring its insured value to be £450? That doesnt sound right to me.

Thought you had an iPhone anyway.

Does he have a phone? :) Or a car :D

I wouldn't be violent with him, Like I said I just wouldn't leave his side, keep turning his computer off, hang up his phone calls, lower and raise his chair, just annoy him...

But did he really accept this or was he told he would have to wait? Big difference between the two.

Tell him he has 5 minutes to give it you back, or you'll escalate to his manager. And then a further 30 minutes until you call the police. Simple as that.

You may have left it a bit late. He could turn around and say that he went home for lunch, left it at home, and won't be able to get it back for a few days.

correct. Im getting pretty irrate at this thread lol, if I was a manager I would be like "well why didnt you report this sooner?" what if someone wants to call you in an emergency and you dont have your phone with you? that'll teach you to leave it for 4 hours right?

and totally agree with baldyman lol he can say "I left it in my car, will give it at the end of the day" manager would accept that answer, your in **** creek cos you, I and the rest of ocuk know he just gonna laugh at you as he drives off with your phone.

Serves you right by trying to show off your new '£450' phone by passing it around the office for everyone to see. :p

The guy wouldn't've had the phone more than 30 seconds if it were me. I'd call the police from desk phone in front of him, give them all his details.
Or put the manager on speakerphone and tell him.

I do have an iPhone I unlocked it and put my T-Mobile SIM in it, this phone was received as a free upgrade from the original contract I took out in 2006.

Wanted this phone as a spare and to give to the gf 'cos she hate's her phone...plus it was free :p

I'm saying £450 because that's what the guy on the phone stated it was insured for :)

Where do you work in Brentwood mate?

I don't work in Brentwood, work on Fenchurch Street, London. I live in Brentwood - Hutton to be more precise.

eitherway it's a £2 card reader, it hardly warrents having his phone being stolen off of him, the original poster already offered to pay him cash but he refused so he ordered him a new one.

Value is irrelavent in my eyes. Sounds like the guy was fed up of you having his card reader from an unneccessary amount of time.

Seriously, I would suggest against getting your manager involved. This will not look favourably on either of you.
