There is a guy using a hose pipe in his garden

I was tempted to use the hose tonight but I was a good citizen and used two litre Evian water bottles instead.

Maybe the guy avoided taking a bath this week just to make sure his plants live?

He may actually be being more efficient with his water than the guy next door who you never see who takes 10 flushes to get rid of his 15 big mac starter.....ploop

I would complain as i pay for water as a service and its my right as a human to have it. End of the day, its free from the sky...

Anyway if the water company runs out, ill buy the bottled stuff from Tesco...

The water is free from the sky if it rains, which it isnt.
It also needs storing, cleaning, transporting and the waste water needs to be transported and cleaned. THAT is what you are paying for.

Using water up whenever you feel like it during a shortage is just stupid.

Seems a load of rubbish to me.
If it was that bad, why do they not tell people to reduce flushing toilets, wash clothes less, have a wash not a bath or shower.
We have an allotment be damned if we would ever listen to a hose pipe ban.

What if you used a hosepipe like a bucket ie fill it and disconnect then empty the water on the lawn.

I live in the anglian area, I have the leaflet on my desk at home and it actually asks people to consider pretty much all the things you suggest.

They call it the drop 20 scheme, giving tips to try to help everyone use 20 litres less a day.

Even got a website www.everyone-drop-20.co.uk

Yeah - me too - so ****** what? I love using my hose - who's gonna stop me?

Must be hard having a hose-pipe ban where you live.. just the other day at Edinburgh marathon there was houses lined up with hose-pipes spraying the runners..

Think of the draught...

Not for me pal - I use my hose whenever I can and for whatever I can think of;

Kettle needs filling - I'll use my hose...
I need a dash of water in my coffee - Use my hose......
Flush the bog - Hose'll do that.......

Sue me :o:p:p

e - ice cube tray needs filling - where's my hose...? Actually, that last one isn't true - My freezer produces ice cubes automatically...:o

How about......filling up the bird bath...? Yay - I'll do that too ^_^

So I'm leaning out of my bedroom window having a cigarette and I see my sister is taking buckets of water from the outside tap over to the guinea pig run and tipping it over the grass. We've just re-turfed the lawn and apparently that bit isn't doing so well. I ask her what she's doing and she explains all this to me whilst lugging buckets back and forth. I sugggest she simply hooks up the hosepipe and save some effort, and she says she can't do that because "there's a hosepipe ban on".

Am I missing something, or is that just stupid?

Depends where you live.

However even if you are, there mayBe an exception for Some newly turfed lawns, only meant to water the turf and not flowers at the same time.

You are allowed to use a hosepipe to water:

plants grown or kept for sale or commercial use.
land used for the purposes of a National Plant Collection
temporary gardens or flower displays if they are for the purpose of a show or exhibition; and on public display for a period not exceeding 7 days.
a garden or to water plants where such watering is restricted to newly laid turf, newly sown lawns and newly planted trees, shrubs and plants when the planting has been carried out as a service to customers in the course of a business. This exemption only applies for a period of 28 days from the day of planting, sowing or turf laying.
