There's just doesn't seem to be good games anymore.

You have to remember that it is you changing as much as the games. When you first played that FPS for 3 months non stop it was your first time, now you are doing it again 5 years later it isn't going to seem as fresh. Yes they can increase the graphics and even the gameplay but at the end of the day you can play more good games than they can make em and this willl be the case for the forseeable future.

Games slowly evolve over decades, when you were young you had 30 decades of games evolution to play with, now you are upto date so to speak it is 1 years development for years play time, so it seems like it is slowing down.

So eventually you are going to get bored. Get another hobby and take a break for a bit.

Plenty of new good games and they are still evolving, just very slowly. Slower than you. So you can't spend all your time playing them forever without getting bored unfortunatly.

I persoanally feel we need more FPSRPG type games. I have stopped playing Aion 24/7 to play Borderlands for a bit, Aion is great but it is a MMORPG at the end of the day, similar to the rest of em, they are 90% all the same tbh. Played some COD4 until I got bored because at the end of the day it is a FPS and is the same as the rest of them also really.

MMOFPS is the way forward for me. Loving Borderlands and Planetside was probably the best game I have ever played.
Has the longevity of an RPG and the short term fun of an FPS.

Some points there that are spot on imo. :)

nono I played MW xD I really didn't like it.

The singleplayer wasn't that good in my opinion ( I am possibly the only person that didn't like Captain Price...) the sniper mission was horrendous and the magic guns that when you shoot the pilot, the rotors begin to blow up randomly. Oh and the end was ludicrous...I won't say for spoiler reasons and I am technologicly inept, but come on!
The multiplayer I really didn't like, it was too arcady for my liking. Although I was a fan of world at war because of its different game style (slower paced and the tanks before the patch...loved artillery strikes and tanks blowing off everywhere :D)

I dislike the look of MW2 because it looks just like MW, I'm not going to buy a game which uses the same formula which failed on me. It's all opinion ofcourse, and the vast majority are against my dislike of MW2.

Wow...I over-use brackets. Terribly sorry if the above is incoherent, I'm a bit of a ****.

Aha, fair enough, I just get annoyed when people slate games without giving them a chance but it sounds like you did :D

Try Dwarf Fortress. One of the best games I've played for ages. Cliff-face learning curve, no graphics or sound to speak of, yet utterly compelling. And free. Go figure.

It has been taking over my life of late.

I thought COD MW to be quite good or was it cos I was on hardest, man that is probably the most intense FPS I ve ever played particularly on some levels

I'm still playing CS Source, I struggle to get into anything else.

Same it's the only game which brings me fullfillment. Most of you are right, it is me. Playing games just seems such a big waste of time now, like so unproductive. Something to do when your past 50 and you can kill some retired time. I only play games when my friends or gf comes over. It's hard when the internet and music are right infront of you too, it's like you have a powerful pc infront of you lets make songs or films and do something fullfilling. My friend has a Wii and recently got into it big time, it feels weird watching him get so excited over the games lol. I used to be like that so I agree with starfighter (did you feel this way too at one point?).

I actually agree with the OP's COD 4 MW1 summary lol. I've found myself getting a fair few games on the cheap at the moment due to not being able to get into a few newer titles at all. Got borderlands and im level 17 on it and already bored of it. However, I've gone back to a few games I never completed like the painkiller series and aliens versus predator 2 and really enjoying them (apart from painkiller ressurection which is awful).

It's not all about fancy graphics and sound if the game sets out to do what you expected. Playing as a marine on AVP2 sure isnt the best looking thing ever but its still very scary even a few years on lol.

I'd also recommend picking up dawn of war 2 cheap if you want quite a few hours of pretty good single player then really nice multiplayer gaming.

Finding plenty to occupy myself with at the moment, still playing Fallout 3 with some of the DLC and just started FM2010. Trainz takes care of the "creative" urge to build worlds in the sandbox, while titles like Flight Simulator and X3TC provide virtually limitless gameplay.

I can see to some extent where OP is coming from, as I've lamented on here before the demise of the 1990's style flight sim - the ones with a huge dynamic campaign or 50+ missions, or the Wing Commander games but you just have to accept the target audience is different these days and they ain't coming back.

So far as forthcoming releases are concerned, well the new Star Wars game is no Tie Fighter but looks worth a shot while COD MW2 will probably provide acouple of frustrating weeks getting spammed by grenades.

I'm the same, the onyl newish (less than 2 years old) games I keep playing is in multiplayer, can't be bothered on my own. It's not because the games are bad, they just don't grip me any more.

Prototype: got bored after bout 2 hrs of playing:
Dead Space: Got bored after the first level.
Gears of War: Gave up VERY quickly still during Act1, only play it now in COOP with a mate and that way it's more enjoyable and we're up to Act4 now :).
Anno 1404: Got bored after 2 full ''random'' games.
Burnout Paradise: Got bored when I had my B or A license ( semi last one).
CoD: WaW : Got bored of the SP, only really played mp.
Crysis & Crysis warhead, got bored of both, 1 hr into crysis and about 2-3 hrs into warhead. Cba to play it on any more :(. Though I occasionally fire it up for the eye candy...
C&C3 Tib wars: CBA to play on, at the point where u meet the Scrin just after u pwnt NOD.
C&C RA3: Meh utter trash.
Demigod: Got bored after 3 or 4 multiplayer games.
Devil may cry 4: Tired of searching where to go trying to remember the levels... I'm at mission 10, iirc where you fight Dante with Nero and play with Dante after... I'm VERY interested in the story but the game but I'm tired of looking where to go/exploring the levels and losing the boss battle a lot of times before succeeding...
Empire Total war: Even more micromanaging from medieval 2, no thanks :(. It was fine how it was in Rome... Now I just cba any more.
Fallout 3: Rushed through the game the first time, enjoyed it. Replayed to explore more and do more quests, enjoyed it up to about halfway, I've done half the possible quests ( or well, I have half the GFWL achievements) from the game and explored most of the map, now I somehow cba any more to do the rest.
Far Cry: Lost the saves many times. Furthest I got was to ''the River'' level where I thought it was too hard...
Far Cry 2: Just into the 2nd half of the world ( bout 26% through the game?), the mission where you have to defend a boat iirc. Cba to play it any more after dying twice.
GTA IV: Finished the story but unsatisfactory game, very boring and generic missions, world and gameplay compared to the brilliance of GTA: VC and especially SA...
Guiar hero series: Finsiehd 3, cba to play Aerosmith or World tour more than just bout 10% of each.
Mirrors Edge: Played through half of it, enjoyed it but also got very frustrated at times. Then my mate finished the other half in just 90 minutes when I was stuck and couldn't be arsed...
NWN2: Played it for 2 hours, got into it, then got bored.
Oblivion: Could never get into it, the furthest I got was with the main quest when you have to go through the oblivion gate for the first time...

Many many other games the same I find them too hard or too annoying or too boring to play and I just cba any more :(.

I am a different gamer than I used to be but still look forward to new titles a lot. I tend to be less inclined to buy games immediately on release unless its a title from a well known developer that I have confidence in like Valve or I.D. I'm quite happy to wait for a few weeks or months, check out demos and opinions etc.

My favourite genre is FPS/RPG which, as someone else said, would be nice if there were a few more of them around. Someone asked me my thoughts after playing Stalker : SOC when I completed it back in the summer of 2008, my response was that I hadn't had such a good gaming experience for some years (since perhaps the first FEAR game). Most games I play get the 6 - 8 out of 10 vote, not many make it past that which is a little bit of a pity.

Anyway, will buy a few titles in readyness for Christmas so I'll be kept entertained. I must still love gaming otherwise I wouldn't still do this as a hobby. Roll on Rage, Doom 4 etc etc...:D

Maybe you're getting bored because there's no real sense of achievement or social interaction like there is in an MMORPG such as Eve Online (which is the main game I've settled on). If you're stuck for other games to play, someone in another thread named Paul_cz boasted about the number of games he has and posted this epic list:

+1

Other games I'd suggest:

King's Bounty
Space Rangers 2 (great game)
Notrium - http://www.monkkonen.net/notrium/
Pirates of the Carribean with Build Mod 14
Mount and Blade
Plants VS Zombies
Torchlight
Puzzle Quest Galactix
Dungeon Keeper Java
X-Com - Ememy Unknown
Jagged Alliance 2
Dragon Age
Mass Effect

Seriously, there are so many good games out there new, old and indie that I find it impossible to believe you claim of 'no good games any more'. Sure, there's a lot of crap but there's also some absolute gems!

I fear you may be bored of gaming, not with games.

rofl that is an epic list but totally pointless and a waste of hdd space mostly lol. The only game i play a lot is eve online. All other games seem meaningless

Seems your getting bored of games my friend. I went through the same period for about a year or two. Now all of a sudden I'm keen to play again. Not sure why though. Recently played l4d and the demo of the second, must say I'm impressed.

I'm in the same boat havent played a game in months. Its lots of reasons mainly I think to do with them not having much meat to them.

Quite a few games there is little point to them games like Bioshock, Call of duty etc. In the past you would be given rewards, incentives, things for completing and playing the game. Now your supposed to just play them for the sake of it, for the story. And then most of the stories are lame, you know what is going to happen and your not going to be able to do anything about it.

One thing that got me interested in PCs compared to consoles, was the apparent crazyness, uniqueness, freeform nature of the games. Now the majority of games from publishers appear homogenised, once you've seen one you know what the next will be like. Any uniqueness is stamped out, the challenges are reduced and then they arent rewarded.

Lastly PC games/games in general arent where I thought they would be now. Take the AVP games for example whilst they are great. The sequal tries to emulate the movies with this story where you have to watch cutscenes and just go along with the flow. I'm tired of watching cutscenes I want to play them. Imagine if the film Aliens was turned into a game, and you had full control all the time, and you could play out differing choices, like not going into that area. Or take the Die Hard movie imagine playing where your given a time limit and its just left up to you to stop the terrosists, anyhow and anyway you want, events happen in real/game time. Not the stupid linear games we are given.

Look at all the science fiction depictions of what games are supposed to be in the future. The holodeck as a specific one, in it you can take any action or course and the simulation adapts perfectly.

We havent taken any step towards this in ten years of game development, except perhaps in physics, but I'm not talking about phsyics.

And before anyone says we cant do it, its too hard it'll take too long, Sentient was a playstation game that tried something like this albeit poorly. All it takes is some effort and imagination/thinking in development. Perhaps when graphics have become less of holdall, advances have plateued in this area we may see, some real advancement.

i find my self in the same position but i blame my self entirely, i have no attention span at the moment but i know it will come back to me, that or ill have to get a good hl2 session on agaiin to get me back in the swing

Sequels and high prices is what i see .keep thinking of geting a 360 but rrod hassle. last gen seems to have more play in them.+ still have pc games not played yet crysis bioshock etc.

A lot of good games are on the consoles these days (not the obvious ones like Batman, Forza), I mean imports like BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, Demon's Souls, etc.
