I thought this normally happened when the flask has been damaged?

They work on vacum, so if you have managed to smash the glass inside it will now be under greater preassure hence you cannot open it.

I wouldnt want to drink it if ya get it open lol, could have glass in it.

Most modern flasks dont have glass in anymore so it depends how old the flask is. It may be like you said though that the flask is damaged, but t could just as easily be due to the cooling of the contents inside.

Contents have only been in it for what...... 4-5hrs? It is a non-glass model.

I'm tempted to find a drill and have me some fun.

I'm going to go and try the following:

- boiling water
- iced water
- door hinge (again)
- throwing it as far as I can in the car park
