Woah, I wasn't expecting so see AM2 so soon, will definately be keeping a watch on this thread :D

AM2 memory bandwidth is in incredible! No current CPU will be able to use it, but damn its still impressive :D

Shame the bandwidth is useless on A64. These AM2's are dead ducks as far as im concerned, forcing us to upgrade to DDR2 when its not even going to bring any performance gains, AMD have even admitted the DDR2 controller is basically just to stay competetive with Intel in marketing terms.

Conroe is going to be where it's at for the next year, the price/performance ratio of even the cheapest examples is going to be outstanding, beating the performance of the FX series for a fraction of the price. Anyone who upgrades to AM2 now will just be staying behind in performance-terms... just as for the last couple of years anyone who bought an Intel was similarly behind.

AMPoo (in my opinion). :(

impressive isnt the right word for them benchmarks  , you probably get 10000000000000000000000000000000000 FPS in games i bet .

Yeah I know mate, but seeing almost 12GBs per second is pretty awesome all the same :) Hopefully quadcore K8L will start putting that bandwidth to good use.

unbelievable

What game could test this setup though. BF2 on ultra settings with 64 people shooting each other in the same frame would get 100fps still ?

Yeah BF2 isn't very challenging, I can play it a 1280x1024 6xaa 16xaf with a single core opteron at 2.8ghz, 1Gb of RAM and an X1800XT. Oblivion at high res with HDR and AA (not on Nvidia though) would be a great test to pit against it.

Is it faster than an identically configued 939 system i wonder?

Well, vocch on the 7900gt overclocking thread is within 900 marks on 3dmark06 (and i'd guess similarly close in other tests). That's with only 7900gts (obviously) and an X2 processor (3800 I think) at 2.8ghz.

All on air of course.

I suspect if there is any extra boost (above and beyond the fact Gibbo is using gtxs and a faster processor) it comes from the moterboard optimising the 7900s rather than the AM2 CPU.

The DDR2 seems to make it feel more fluid and responsive but were talking only a minute difference at best.

I think your right but the more people on screen the more the cpu is taxed, 64 people along with their physics, netcode and graphics would be a big ask :D

Grr wish I hadn't read this thread now, it's making my Athlon 64 3200 feel very slow lol.

Still thats one insanely fast PC, if only I could afford one.

if you have a look, i can match his scores, apart from 03, cause ive only ever ran it once.

i can get higher scores, as ive messed with my cpu, and gained an extra 100 points in cpu 06, so should just about beat his score.

though only using ccc for my cards and if i had a better psu id clock them up with ati tool to 17k in 05

good cpu score in 06, mine is 2311 which is very close to yours

ill have another go and see if i can beat your scores

finally competion time!!!
