theSkynet News - 24/10/2011

As others have said the stats are like to when you join a team.
Also the team page is updated hourly at best. This is where the small differences lie
And some members 'team' stats are just wrong.
A small but common issue it would seam.

Only way i could do a true 'like for like' stats grab was indervidually.
Very time consuming i know.
I'll be back on saturday so only a few more grabs to do halz, and sorry to hear about your pc :(

But that does mean the stats collection method will have to change.

I think so too, so from today it will only be points earned while you are in the team that will be taken into account (as shown on the Alliance page).
This will make the graphs look alarming for some but the sooner this is done the better.
Project rankings will of course be unaffected but for some this change will be significant, for example DavidCopeman will lose 10,000 from the team stats.

Amen to that :p

Sorry to everyone #14 and below. n00b coming through! :)

Very nice output from project newbies Berserker and edgedemon :)

Curtin University's output has skyrocketed recently but as they run the project I guess this shouldnt come as a suprise.

Even at our present (early days) RAC we are good for 8th place so plenty of stomps to come :D
This is especially good considering how few of us there are :)

Sorry Colasanto. You've just been whacked! :p

(thought I'd go with the Mafia theme of this forum for a change!)

Onwards to the top 10 then. Bit of a last hurrah for me as I'm gradually scaling back my crunching. It's good to see the energy meter (for the entire house) consistently reporting less than 600W. :)

Happy to play my part in stomping the military! It's the closest to military service I'll ever get! :D

I'll probably be reducing output tomorrow. I'm only running the web client so it's a pain lots of windows open. Don't really want to get into installing the background client just now.

A lot of the time this project will allways come second for most of the veteran Boinc
crunchers, what ever you can contribute is good enough for me.

Clearly your contribution did make a difference :)

The Team is now on the first page on the stats :D

Just thought I'd clear up something I've seen a lot in these threads...

theSkyNet work units are not 500MB. That's just the way Java works. In Java, you configure the run-time (JRE) with the maximum amount of memory you want it to use (~500MB in this case), and it then uses that any way it sees fit.

Java uses a 'garbage collector' (the software equivalent of the local council refuse collection). You can put unwanted stuff (garbage) out whenever you want, but it won't get collected until the collector decides to come and get it. In Java's case, the collector can 'decide' any time, but it tends to do it only when needed (i.e. when 500MB has been used and old stuff needs to be cleared away to make room for new).
